WASHINGTON -- Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has yet to define what he stands for in his fledgling campaign to become California's next governor, if the current one is recalled in the Oct. 7 special election.
The fact that the Austrian-born actor's views are largely unknown, however, doesn't seem to be a problem for Republican House members from the state who, one by one, are lining up behind Schwarzenegger week-old campaign.

The latest endorsement came from Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Redlands.
"A fresh voice, combined with intelligence and fresh ideas, is exactly what the doctors have ordered for the fiscal crisis facing us in Sacramento," Lewis said in a statement. "Arnold Schwarzenegger absolutely fits the bill -- a non-politician who understands that the government needs to run a lot more like a business than the traditional political approach."
Sounds like an endorsement of Hitler, almost... imo :-\
What's that tell ya about the state of "conservativism" in the elected ranks?
And Arnie has , as yet, to reveal his agenda... but adding "Higher Taxes" Buffett isn't a good sign.
Do the words "globalist elite" mean anything to anyone?

Schwarzenegger can win in October because "he can reach out statewide to Republicans." Here's to the rebirth of the Republican party in California. Once again it will be cool to vote Republican...

I trust no one is surprised that RINOs support RINOs as do many so-called conservatives and moderates.
No More RINOs
Go McClintock.

I agree with most that Arnold is a marginal Republican, BUT if one of the Democrat Senators passes away or leaves, He CAN appont a republican to replace them.

Arnold is all you hear about," said Rep. Wally Herger, R-Marysville. "He's the total show. People are excited."
Guess we can't point fingers at the liberals anymore and accuse them of making decisions based on emotion.

Yes, another reason why it's important to consider electability. I would prefer McClintock's policies, but McC has little money and is only about a "5" on the charisma scale (which does put him higher than Cruz "The Human Weebil" Bustamante).
My ideal is for McClintock, if not to win, to support Arnold in the end in return for getting the post of budget director ... let McC be the "bad cop" for awhile, but only for awhile ... and, once the state has turned around, Arnold steps aside to make "King Conan," while McC serves EIGHT YEARS as California's first conservative governor since Reagan!

While I'll agree that Herger's statement isn't a sound basis for making a decision, Herger, the story makes clear, hasn't endorsed Arnold yet. And you're very much mistaken if you are suggestnig Herger is a liberal: his
ACU rating over 16 years in the House is 97. His
NTU average rating is about an A-. His
ADA rating is a big, fat, wonderful zero. Herger would be considered conservative in Provo, let alone northern Cal.

McClintock should run against Boxer for the US Senate seat. I don't think he stands a chance in this race. Arnold has sucked all the political wind out of his sails.

Instead of the ones NormsRevenge highlighted, I thought this was one of the more interesting observations:
Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Del Mar, is a conservative and a decorated Vietnam War hero who also has endorsed Schwarzenegger, but for different reasons.
"Arnold grew up in a socialist country, and that's what California, in my view, is slowly becoming," Cunningham said in an interview. "He knows there's only two places socialism works -- an ant hill and a beehive."
Arnold not only made the decision to escape socialism, he has embraced its opposition since coming here. Pretty savvy thinking, to me. But WAIT!! The REAL STORY here is that the people who have worked with McClintock the most, who know him best AND his ability to project his ideas effectively to get things done, are NOT, absolutely NOT, supporting McClintock. To me, that deafening silence speaks volumes about what he could accomplish as California's next governor.

You know what a "turncoat" is?
Dissing Tom to crawl in bed with a "star" is the epitome of hypocrisy , imo.

It's not about jumping into bed with a star, but a pretty clear signal that McClintock lacks the support of even those who have worked with him and seen him in action, that he doesn't have the kindling to create the fire that reshapes California's political landscape. Instead of calling other conservatives "turncoat" just because they don't apparently share your sterling views of McClintock, why not look at what they're saying, and in the case of the comment about Arnold coming from a socialist country, it makes a LOT of sense. These people did not "diss" McClintock, but contrarily, their polite and pained silence about him speaks volumes about his level of effectiveness. When you're pinning the hopes of the future of the Republican party in CA, you don't want to pin them on someone who can't get the job done, no matter how much you like what they have to say.

Ose is the head of the state's Republican Main Street organization, which tries to steer a middle course through the choppy political surf by looking to promote liberals at every turn.
As Ose sees it, Schwarzenegger, who has never held political office, is the best hope for fixing the state's budget problems. "Schwarzenegger represents California's mainstream values [unlike those conservative anti-choice extremist Republicans who are out of the mainstream] and is the GOP's best chance of restoring fiscal responsibility in Sacramento," Ose said in a statement. Thought I'd add the unspoken subtext.

We definitely have different views of the candidates and the mess here in California and how to fix them. But don't discredit Tom as he has more than enough capabilities and cohonies to do the job.
I'm not worried about "support" either, as Tom is doing just fine.
Crimint, we are 7 weeks out, we have a debate in mid-Sept. If Tom is down in the polls , I suspect he will withdraw if he deems it prudent to do so.
I wish others would spend as much time researching the candidates as they do poo-pahing their chances before the election process is a week old.
Arnold's Team is shaping up as nothing more than a liberal end run to keep California from going GOP ever, imo.
This Recall is the first battle of many to come, the next being the November 2004 election where a lot of demRtas will be issued their walking papers as well.
Oh, and 'turncoat' wasn't necessarily aimed at you, but with a name like "alwaysconservative", I reckun that hit a raw nerve. Let the candidates do their thing and we will do ours in October.

Whether or not you believe me, I respect your opinions on the subject. And I agree that McClintock will likely review his options closer to R-day (R is for Recall and Republican!). I hope he is the man you say he is, if he sees that his candidacy could help create a Governor Busta. . .(I can't, can't say it!).
I also simply do NOT get Simon's inexplicable decision to throw his hat in the ring without consulting some of the California pubbies first. What is going on with him?
Lastly, I DO very much trust you and the other California voters to use this opportunity to shape the political future. This debate has been fascinating in that it makes us talk about our core issues, our core beliefs, our battles between ideology and pragmatism. The public debate cannot but be instructive, don't you think? And you have to admit that when the legitimate choices are between a third-rate rat hack tied to the old administration, and two Republicans who have, in their various ways, stimulated the election process, it is a pretty good place to be.
