SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Arnold Schwarzenegger added more brawn to his campaign team on Thursday by announcing ex Secretary of State George Shultz would join his campaign as an economic adviser, according to the candidate's spokesman.

Seeking to counter opponent's attacks that the muscleman-turned-actor was not qualified to serve as California's governor, Schwarzenegger has assembled a team of political veterans behind the scenes and some top finance names in the foreground.

On Wednesday, he named billionaire Democrat Warren Buffett as his senior economic adviser, then donated $1 million to his own campaign to help fund the new team.

Spokesman Sean Walsh said on Thursday that Shultz, who served as secretary of state under president Ronald Reagan, would also join the economic advisory team.

Are they here yet?

Now that I think about it, electing an Austrian Governor with George Shultz as an advisor, will probably drive the NWO folks crazy.....er,more crazy.

Well the 'purist', 'true' or in reality the "1%ers" don't seem to be piling up much of a team themselves or endorsements either.... But then they didn't expect to win and have the responsibility of governing, imo.

Mr.Waldheim was SS-not his Daddy or his uncle or his step-neighbor-in-law. HIM. He was the very active mentor of Arnold. Arnold has said quit plainly he loves Kurt. he said he & HIS wife love Kurt. He has declined to renounce this. Seldom do people run for high office with such a mine-strewn past. The Repub's have made major error hear.

You might read more carefully & grow up.

You may be surprised to learn that some subjects ( the corruption of our nation by bad actors like Hatch, for instance ) demand harsh attention. You are being boorish & quite transparent to pick a fight-only to distract.

They just got in the race to be spoilers. Someone told me in freep mail he hopes they stay in so that when Arnold wins we can show we don't need the "purist" or "true" conservatives to win.

Whatever is a "purist" or "true" conservative anyways. They are nothing more than the whiney kid on the playground when he couldn't make the rules, took his ball and went home.

One of the oddest posts I saw this week was the one that said conservatives have always been the Republican Party (paraphrased). Then I was on ACU looking for ratings of some RATs and there was Keene's article that he was one of a handfull of conservative Republicans back in the 60's in college. Last I checked the Republican Party went way back before the 60's -- that is 1960's BTW!

For those who were having hysterics over Arnold picking Buffet, a Democrat as an economic advisor, can now see that Arnold knows exactly what he is doing: Shultz and Buffett will co-chair his economic team, so there is nothing to worry about.

George Shultz to chair Schwarzenegger economic team

ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer Thursday, August 14, 2003

(08-14) 18:08 PDT LOS ANGELES (AP) --

Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Thursday that former U.S. Secretary of State George P. Shultz will co-chair an Economic Recovery Council for his gubernatorial campaign.

It was the second heavyweight announcement in as many days for the actor as he seeks to position himself as a well-credentialed candidate for the state's highest office. On Wednesday the campaign said billionaire investor Warren Buffett would be a financial adviser.

Buffett and Shultz, who served during the first Bush administration, will be joint co-chairs of the economic council. Buffett is a high-profile Democrat and Shultz a high-profile Republican and their appointments reflect the campaign's attempt to assemble a diverse and bipartisan team.

The campaign will soon have an economic summit, Schwarzenegger told reporters in brief remarks on his way into a San Fernando Valley middle school where he attended a commencement ceremony for an after-school program he's involved with.

I read he was talking to Forbes, I don't know if he added Forbes to his team officially, but he is at least talking to him. I bet Forbes would hardly give the time of day to Davis.

Shultz is the pipeline to the White House.

That was my first thought, too. Anyone who thinks Schulz took this position without vetting it with the White House please raise your hand.

98% of the American public doesn't know who George Schultz is.

I wonder if they'll compare tattoos?

Yet another down with principles post. Moderatism is more and more liberalism lite every day. Sad to see folks cheering it on, but I suppose that's what you when winning is the only thing that matters. Those pesky purists! Don't they know that it's perfectly OK to elect someone who violates over half of your party plank? It's all about POWER y'all, not principles. Principles are just pesky little moral fetters for lesser men....

~yawn~ Tell me again why I should care or what difference this makes to Arnold's character? (Like all the liberal politicians aren't in bed with the KKK? Why else do they want to keep the blacks on the plantation?)

And how strong was the conservative wing of the party prior to the 1960's? That was Keene's point -- Goldwater led a revolution from there to retake the party -- and he was one of the few conservatives at that time, when a lot of others were falling over themselves to pass civil rights laws, undeterred about what Constitutional violence such laws did (even if the intent was correct).

*ROFL* The ad hominem angle. Typical. I guess if you can't debate the issue, you sling mud at your opponents.
