"The outage was caused by an outage at a Manhattan power plant which destabilized the power grid as far as Canada, FERC spokesman Bryan Lee said." I thought the problem was an overload on the Niagara Grid. And you don't have an "outage" at a power plant. Stupid media tricks.

Buffalo, New York CBS TV Station reports that this Power Outtage is due to...
...OVER-USAGE.

Friend just called me from N.Y.C.-says it's too many people using too much power for air conditioning on a very hot day

And please, let us rush to shut down the 2 nuclear power plants at Indian Head. Who wants or needs THAT power!! (All those "Greenies" would rather freeze in the dark (but in August, it is more likely to "broil" in the dark, and worry about rampant crime as people start burning down the neighborhoods.)

I personally do not give a damn. We supported the Patriot Act to prevent these problems.
If even a natural act can shut down the electrical power in America, some heads should roll!

THIS IS HOW IT WILL START.
DO YOU KNOW THE RULES WHEN ORDER IS LOST???
"YOUR CONCEALED WEAPON IS FOR PROTECTION OF YOUR LIFE ONLY."
"KNOW EXACTLY WHEN YOU SHOULD USE YOUR WEAPON."
"IF YOU CAN RUN AWAY SAFELY- RUN, RUN RUN!"
"DON'T LET YOUR EMOTIONS GET THE BEST OF YOU."

If it is like the power failure in the 1960's in Exeter NY we can always blame it on UFO'S!
DOOMED! DOOMED I TELL YOU! RUN! RUN! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!

I also heard the other way around, that the Niagara-Mohawk powergrid overloaded, and that caused the plant in NY to shut down automatically, and this shut down caused the plant to release smoke.

Someone on 17th Street and Third Avenue ran the toaster oven while blow-drying their hair. It's obvious.

I thought Reuters was not using the term terrorist. Shouldn't the headline say blackouts not freedom fighter related?

Does this make it harder for Gov. Davis to blame his woes on Enron? Enron wasn't responsible for the NYC overload but the power went out there. Perhaps similar conditions were responsible for outages in California, too. I recall Davis asking why other locales weren't experiencing the problems that California was, and using that as proof to blame the energy companies for manipulation.
Just a thought...

I'm always amazed at how the government can't say for certain what caused the problem, but they can instantly declare that it wasn't terrorism.

If they don't know what caused it, how can they say they know it's not terrorism?
