Springs Officer Believes AR-15 Fell Out Of Trunk
The Colorado Springs Police Department is looking for help to find a semi-automatic weapon that fell out of the back of a police cruiser Tuesday evening.
Police believe that the rifle, which was in a black case approximately 3.5 feet by 1 foot by 6 inches, fell out of the trunk of a patrol car when an officer was traveling between two locations. The trunk lid somehow became open when the officer was driving, police said.
The route the officer took led him from 3680 Citadel Drive North, to Citadel Drive, to Chelton Road, to Santa Rosa Street, to Don Juan Street, to Dale Avenue, to Tiajuana Street. A search of the area by officers and K9 units uncovered nothing.
The rifle is stamped "Law Enforcement Only." The magazines have a label with the number 1508 on them. The rifle serial number is LBD014980.
Police say that if you see the rifle, you should not handle it for safety reasons. Anyone with information about the location of the rifle is asked to call the police department at (719) 444-7000.

The AR-15 rifle was loaded and a total of four ammunition magazines were in its carrying case, police said.

DUH!
Just damn.
If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
Moron probably left it on the trunk of his squad. Gotta love those 90 IQ hiring qualifications.
Yeah, there's plenty of other reasons to handle it.
How a police officer can lie about this is so indicative of what's wrong with our public employees. It's like "what truth do I need to create to cover my ass this day?" What's wrong with just saying "I screwed up, I left it on top of the car when I drove off" For that, I would support him or her. But lying about it is unforgivable and telling of the integrity of our servants.
In the hands of a peasant it's a "Machine Gun", banned in all 50 states for our own safety.
Reminds me of a true story... An unnamed Cabinet Secretary of an unnamed department..., had a group of heavily armed security types (MP-5s, etc.).
This "crew", in order to confirm the security of a rural location for a "photo-op" occasion drove into the "boonies" and promptly got their rental vehicles stuck in the mud! To make matters worse, they then locked their keys in their vehicles somehow! They were FAR out of range for their radios to access the "Common" LE frequency!!!
To make a long story short, they had to walk along a dirt road for about 5 hours before encountering a pickup truck which took them to a phone to call a wrecker and a locksmith to get them back into their cars (at 2AM).
All this time, their rental cars with at least 6 MP-5s and God knows what else, sat in the middle of a "mud-patch".
All this time, a local farmer whose crew had come upon the vehicles, on their own initiative, STOOD GUARD over the vehicles guessing that they might somehow be related to the "Photo-Op" which they knew was to take place the next day!!!
Having been responsible for "handholding" the operation (other than security, which was "Tightly Controlled" and limited to "Need to Know"), my staff and I were secretly ROTFLOAO for months!!!
