Remember Speaker Brulte?
Cruz Must Lose California Recall
The Republicans blew it at every step of the way. They made mistake after mistake after mistake.
-- Willie Brown, January 1995
Im sure people remember the election of 1994. That was the year the Republicans took back the House of Representatives. Republicans won all over the nation in 1994 and California was no exception. Republicans took control of the State Assembly in California with a 41 to 39 advantage. Nationally, the Republicans have not lost their advantage since the 1994 election. But in California it took less than two months for Republican control to evaporate. And the California Democrat party hasnt looked back.
In 1994 Willie Brown had been Californias Assembly speaker for 14 years and, with the 41 to 39 Republican advantage, it was time to end Browns rule and establish Jim Brulte as the Assembly speaker. But unbelievably, Brown and the Democrats orchestrated a series of events that led to Brown being elected speaker yet again.
A 41 to 39 advantage became a 40 to 39 loss. The Republicans never recovered.
Now return to the present and we can see history may be repeating itself. An assured Democrat loss and Republican victory could become a Democratic win if the Republicans fragment like they did in 1994. California Democrats have outfoxed the Repubs over and over and it could be happening again. The Dems cant do it without help from, or the haplessness, of California Republicans, as Willie Brown pointed out in the quote that starts this piece.
This time around the Republicans are making mistake after mistake by running three candidates in the recall election for Governor while the Dems are running only one, Cruz Bustamante, the current Lt. Governor.
Running only one candidate assures the Dems of maximizing the vote of their hardcore constituency. Bustamante will get anywhere from 30% to near 50% of the vote, depending on turn out.
With three Republicans on the ballot, can any one of them surpass Bustamantes total? It will be near impossible unless Schwarzeneggers presence causes a larger turnout of those who normally dont vote and they vote for him. This could be referred to as a non-aligned voting bloc and could carry Arnold over the top. But such a scenario cant be counted on.
Republicans and conservatives, we have to get our act together and support one and only one candidate by well before the October 7 election.
Otherwise sure victory and loss for the Democrats will have turned in to ignominious defeat yet again.
And worse, wed be saddled with Cruz Bustamante as California Governor. And you thought Davis was bad.

We didn't blow it in 94. A piece of garbage RINO was bribed by the dems to switch votes. There wasn't much we could do about it.

The first step to recovery is taking reposnibility for one's mistakes.
Republicans blew it here big time.
We won a majority in 1994 yet could never even elect a speaker.
That marked the downfall of the party in CA.
It's been downhill since.

A sideline to this is that it will make the clintons look like true heroes if the RATS keep the governorship. That means hillary gains momentum for her presidential run either in 04 or 08. Do we want to give the clintons a burst of wind in their sails?

What happens to the recall election if Davis resigns 3 days before the election? You know. The polls say he can't win, so he pulls a Torricelli and passes it off to Cruz.

A vote for Tom McClintock, Bill Simon or Peter Ueberroth is a vote for Cruz BustamanteBut a vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger is a vote for...Arnold Schwarzenegger. Why have the recall at all if you're going to put in someone who is almost to the left of Davis?
To: Falcon4.0
Won't work. They'll still have to elect a new governor October 7.
To: tallhappy
Explain to me: Cruz is saying that Gray Davis' policies are correct and the man deserves to stay in power. But IF you Californians disagree and choose to throw his ass out, then vote for me in the replacement election so that I can continue these same suicidal policies?

Running only one candidate assures the Dems of maximizing the vote of their hardcore constituency. Bustamante will get anywhere from 30% to near 50% of the vote, depending on turn out. From what I have read, if someone votes "NO" on the recall, they do not get to vote for a replacement. Or if they do, the ballot is void. So this would mean that a Davis supporter would have to choose between Davis and Bustamante. If Davis gets about 20-30% "NO" votes as expected, that would mean that Bustamante gets 10-30%.

Arnold is NOT to the left of Davis. That's just what people trying to divide the GOP want us to think. Hey, are you one of them?

The recall continues - except Cruz would be totally out of a job if he lost on both parts. If Davis stays up to the recall but loses the vote, Bustamante continues as Lt. Gov. unless he's the winner of the recall. Davis won't resign now unless to totally screw Bustamante.

It is the type of hypocrisy that the media would be screeching about if a Republican was saying it. But if you are a RAT, the media will dutifully remain mute. Typical SOP by the corrupt media.

First thing Arnold must do is revamp the election system - too much corruption and fraud.
Secondly, white Democrats won't vote for Cruz because of the alien problems in that state. Just a fact.

We didn't blow it in 94. A piece of garbage RINO was bribed by the dems to switch votes. There wasn't much we could do about it. Not so. Willie Brown shrewdly engineered this disaster because he was smart and had a great, ruthless political guy working for him. While Republicans were celebrating their takeover of the Assembly, Brown never stopped working. He caught the Republicans napping.
Who was that great, ruthless political guy that engineered Brown's coup? Richie Ross. The same Richie Ross who is now running Bustamante's campaign. I just posted an article in today's LA Times about Ross. Republicans who don't remember this guy or ignore him will live to regret it.

From what I have read, if someone votes "NO" on the recall, they do not get to vote for a replacement. Wrong. Voters vote on both.
Now, get back to your fares.
