LOS ANGELES (AP) - A woman who died when she fell or jumped from a burning fourth-floor apartment and was impaled on a wrought iron fence lived in a home where the smoke alarm had been disconnected, authorities said Wednesday. The woman, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday night, said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Fire Capt. Bill Wick Of course.

Life is so unfair.
I remember a young female that tried to commit suicide in much the same manner. Rescue workers cut the fence to get her to the hospital.
She survived, minus a number of organs. Can't recall how many hours on the table.

How long till the manufacturer of the fence gets sued?

A disconnected fire-alarm and "...caused by "a carelessly discarded heat source"?
Stupid behavior leading to a terribly sad outcome...

I hate it when people avoid using descriptive words such as "woman", "girl", "man" etc.

I met a woman a few years ago & I noticed that she walked with a limp & had had an injury to her calf. She had lost her keys & was trying to break in to her own house. While standing on a wrought iron fence she slipped & was impailed thru her calf. She could not free herself & was stuck upright like that for quite a while (an hour or longer) until someone heard her cries for help.

I wonder if Captain Wick knows Lawrence Seaman, the boat operator from the posted article earlier about the Times reporter getting arrested in the waters off Kennedy Airport?

I wonder if Captain Wick knows Lawrence Seaman, the boat operator. . . . As the Romans used to say: Nomen est omen.

If the pics are any thing like the guy who had his head impaled on the fence, you don't.

When asked to comment, former President Clinton replied "I did not impale."
