A poll just released by the Washington Post finds that support for gay civil unions is dropping fast, let alone gay marriage. But all that matters is the opinion of the nine "high priests" of American jurisprudence. And I think I know which way five of them will go.

"Most polling organizations call when the Oprah watching person is home to answer the phone. Also, most conservatives are too busy (read not watching Oprah and eating Bon-Bons) to answer the polls."
Consider that around the same time the Gallup poll showed that Americans regarded homosexuality as morally wrong by a margin of only 52%-44% while the Quinnipiac Poll found Americans regarded it as morally wrong by a margin of 58%-31%. That's a huge difference.

He wants me to "justify" my beliefs as if I had to convince an aethist and could not use the Bible as a source. Consider asking him what his issues are with the Bible. Remind him that the Bible makes a number of claims about itself, that it is true, etc., and he is the one saying it isn't. Put the onus (gently) on him to prove why the Bible cannot be trusted as a book. Talk about the huge number of Greek manuscripts available, and how we have far more evidence for the Hew Testament's veracity that we have for any other ancient document.

In some ways I have taken that route. I also have tried to get him to digest the concept of faith. He's still young and hasn't had children yet so I keep hoping for him.

Let me put it to you this way: I'm just praying that 5 or 6 of them WILL GO.
