When it comes to oil, you are all about domestic production, but when it comes to IT, its better that we rely on future generations of Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, and Russians to develop new operating systems, switches, network technology, and application development - after all, we need more law school graduates here in the US, where during your administration, the only segment of the economy to grow was the litigation industry."

Oh sheesh, you ooze demo talking points.

Oh BTW, if you owned a business and tried to cut costs of doing business, how would you feel if a government beureaucrat said you couldn't. Or are you going to give another demo talking point on how all business owners are evil.

BTW, how come you just bash Bush and not the demos, who try to block tax cuts(which benefit American businesses and consumers) at every juncture.

You do know the military uses high end, off the shelf, networking equipment manufactured by companies like Cisco and Juniper don't you. It's not a good idea to give China easy access to the latest and greatest hardware used to move logistical data. The Aegis system is built from COTS hardware and software and low-and-behold the ChiComs are announcing the development of a new Aegis class destroyer.

Let's not make their missles as accurate as ours. That was the advantage we held over the Soviets, we will have no such advantage over the Chinese.

If my way of cutting costs was dumping toxic waste into a river then I think the government has every right to step in. Government intervention in business is a matter of degrees. I think it should try and promote a healthy business climate and promote the general welfare of the US populace and weighing that against staying out of the market.

And be careful what you wish for: Hoover thought the same things about keeping the government out of the Depression and look what that got us.

Because if a staunch republican can do it off the top of their head, liberals in the press will be able to carry it off pretty well as it gets down to the wire.

I'm for Bush, plan to vote for him again, twice if possible. Would love to see Murray, McDermott, Larsen, and some of the logic-impervious, business-destroying liberals relieved of their reponsibilities in representing my state.

I own a business that sells competitor information management software. Best thing you can do for your business is to profile it as if you were a competitor.

The things I just said in that paragraph are not yet Demo talking points. I have yet to hear any of the Dwarves, or the ex-co-president say any of what I just did.

But they could, and it would sound pretty reasonable to a right-leaning IT worker, wouldn't it? It might sound pretty good to a hard right guy as well.

Personally, I don't think Bush should make ANY deals with democrats. Look where it's got him? Where are all of his judicial nominees. Look at what his Dad's deals did to the SCOTUS.

As far as taxes, I am all for the new fair tax initiative, and abolishment of the IRS in the near term.

If Bush's strategy is to take issues away from the D's, then the outsourcing one is an issue that, let's say, he needs to get around to sometime in the near future.

If you are moving your business to Indonesia and saying goodbye to the American workers, you should move there in person, deal with Indonesian government and pay tariffs if you want to access American market.

I'd say if they can't stay in business while protecting our national sovereignty and national security, screw 'em...They don't deserve to be in any type of business...If you want to be a globalist, do it in Indonesia but it will cost you to peddle your "junk" in the U.S. of A...

The federal government has a right to tariff but not to place income tax! How would I fell as a business owner who could not offshore without paying a tariff kinda like someone who would want to dump toxins in the great lakes but could not because of federal regulation.

BTW you never answered the guys question, why should we fight not to depend on forign oil but should depend on forign IT?

You might as well save your breath. This is one of many threads that offer proof that there is a very strong current of protectionism and mercantilism gaining ground among some conservatives that is very disturbing. And I don't think it's limited to Buchanan's supporters. The last time it happened it helped ruin the Republican Party for 50 years. Sure hope history doesn't repeat itself. Much of this hand wringing is being spawned by unions, which you'd think would give conservatives their first clue.
