FOX-Sleaze vs. FOX-News : Conservatives Must Decide!
CFAA ^ | 8/13/03 | Timothy Chichester

PRESS RELEASE:     8/13/03, 4:16 PM

SUBJECT:               FOX-Sleaze vs. FOX-News : Conservatives Must Decide!

The Catholic Family Association of America (CFAA) issued a call to moral conservatives to fight the scheduled mainstreaming of pornography by Fox Broadcasting by hitting Rupert Murdoch where they have the most influence, the ad revenues of FOX-News.

In an article called The Music Man, appearing on the CFAA web site, president Timothy A. Chichester denounced the pending introduction of "Skin", a show designed to mainstream pornography under the guise of a Romeo and Juliet romance between a "good" pornographer's daughter and a "bad" LA district attorney's son.

Chichester blasted Jim Leonard, creator and executive producer of the program, who boasted that "We have a working porn director who is a technical adviser for us", for attempting to mainstream the ideas that the porn industry is a legitimate business and the walking cess-pool sludge who run it are really not just plain folk, but better than those that oppose them.

Citing Fox owner Murdoch as one who also thinks we really need a show that "glorifies and promotes the smut industry that has devastated more lives than we can ever imagine, while it undermines the very concept of moral self-control," the article goes on to observe: "Murdoch happily rakes in the cash from both sides of the cultural divide. In one hand he holds FOX-Sleaze and the other FOX-News. The first caters to the social liberals based on the proposition that the deeper the TV dumpster the bigger the bottom-feeder bucks to be hauled up. FOX-News caters to those who seek refuge from the nauseating reek of the pit. Wow, what a market straddle! What a two-headed money machine."

CFAA is asking that viewers let Murdoch know what they think of his attempts to use their minds "as his personal sewerage filtration plant" by turning off FOX-News for three days a week until Murdoch cancels "Skin".

Now... if Fox News started a porn channel starring the newsbabes... FoxBabes maybe?

I'd pay good money for a Heather Nauert/ED Hill pay-per-view.

On/Off button, Channel changer.

Use them.

Voluminously.

They speak loudly.

If people don't watch, Fox won't keep the program on. Very simple.

I refuse to accept the notion of full-blown censorship, because while today, we may want their show censored, tomorrow, it will be something more important of ours that gets censored. We play fair. They don't.

Just make sure that our message is louder than theirs. The truth and good will always win.

Just damn.

If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

The press release you posted was from the CATHOLIC Family Association of America. I am merely pointing out that this group should go after the perverts in the Holy See, the same perverts who have been sexually abusing good CATHOLIC boys and girls for God knows how long, FIRST rather than pick on a commercial entity like FOX.

Frankly, since 1) I AM the Vice President of the CATHOLIC Family Association of America, and I have a well-earned reputation here on Free Republic for 2) being not only one of the harshest critics of the homosexual molestator infiltrators of the Catholic priesthood but also 3) actively fighting it by exposing homosexual molesters in my region and assisting their victims, I can categorically state that we are NOT hypocrites while you indeed are an ill-informed bigot.

It's a very amoral channel.

No surprise....all the networks, especially the minor ones, have to compete with the internet, hundreds of cable channels, crappy Hollywood movies. They've lowered their standards to keep viewers.

Well I may piss off a lot of people here by saying this but if you don't agree with the content of the shows then just turn to another channel.

I mean there are shows that I find very objectionable but I change the channel. I don't want anyone telling me what I can or can't watch when in my own home or forcing a show off the air cause you disagree with the content.

I mean think about it folks if a TV show gets good ratings then I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who want to see that show and disagree with you about the content. Let them watch their shows and you turn to another station and watch something else.

By the numbers below, broadcast Fox Tv has roughly 3x (NOT 20x) the operating income of Fox News. However, while operating income doubled over the last year for Fox TV, it tripled for Fox News:

From http://sg.biz.yahoo.com/030813/15/3ddgr.html

Revenue at the company, which is controlled by Rupert Murdoch, jumped 20% in the quarter to $4.59 billion from $3.83 billion a year earlier while operating income rose 26% to $570 million.

News Corp.'s (NWS) second-quarter net income totaled 28 cents an American depositary receipt compared with a loss of $1.40 per ADR a year ago.

(A headline at 7:24 a.m. EDT implied that operating net figures were net income figures.)

News Corp.'s television unit, which includes the Fox network and local TV stations, reported operating income of $291 million compared with $179 million a year earlier. The company pointed to increased ratings for "American Idol," "24," "The Simpsons," "That 70s Show" and "Bernie Mac." News Corp.'s Hong Kong-based satellite broadcaster, Star TV, achieved profitability for the full year for the first time since the company has owned the business.

The company's cable network programming unit, which includes the Fox News Channel, cable networks like FX, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, saw operating income rise to $96 million from $34 million a year earlier. The company said viewership at its Fox News network rose 92% in prime time in the fourth quarter and more than doubled on a twenty-four hour basis.

Newspaper operations, which include the British tabloid the Sun and the New York Post, reported operating income of $126 million, an 8% increase. The improvement stemmed largely from an increase in display advertising growth in Australia. During the fourth quarter the company saw the end of a difficult pricing war in the U.K. in which it cut the price of the Sun.

News Corp.'s filmed entertainment division posted operating income of $85 million, an increase of 13%, on the strength of the film "X2: X-Men United."

The company's 80.1%-owned Italian pay-TV business, SKY Italia, reported an operating loss of $68 million for the two months ended June 30. News Corp. acquired the stake on April 30.

News Corp.'s book publishing arm, HarperCollins, saw operating income fall to $4 million from $13 million a year earlier.

Not at all. Read his first post on this thread. If anyone tries to silence me and prevent my involvement in the culture wars simply because I'm a member of a Christian church that has members and even clerics who sin then I'm going to tell them to get lost and call a spade a spade.

Because such a litmus test would prevent any and ALL conservatives from engaging the culture wars, no matter which faith they belong. No, anyone who tries to silence me just because I'm Catholic is...a bigot.

Exactly my point. To the right, news is entertainment - we don't mind thinking. To the left, porn on TV is okay.

If you own a media empire, and you are good at marketing, you'll provide both. We ignore segmentation on ideological grounds?

So how are you still going to contend that more people watch FoxNews than FoxTV?

Actually, my post was an admission that you were right, that Fox TV has more viewrers based on operating income. I was granting you your point of debate.

I don't. I think some people get confused because when Murdoch let's his personal politics be known he clearly leans right, so they think Fox News is an expression of his beliefs when in fact it's merely an expression of a market he felt would be profitable. If CNN and MSNBC went right Fox News would go left so fast you would probably see Brit Hume get fired live on camera, Murdoch doesn't dilly-dally.

Fox TV does not reflect the values of the average viwer of Fox News. This is a chance to influence that programming.

Good luck!

The people who watch Fox Broadcasting wouldn't watch a news program if it was the only thing on TV.

The only thing that I watch on Fox Broadcasting is Fox News Sunday. When it comes on, most of the regular Fox Broadcasting viewers are probably sleeping off a hangover.

Frankly, I don't give a damn what Ruppert Murdoch does, as long as he doesn't cut loose Fox News.
