It's very possible that Buffet can suggest ways that California can be made more business-friendly. That's probably all that Arnold wants from him.
Politically, this just pushes Bustamante further and further in the corner. He hasn't been able to count on traditional Democrat groups and personalities.
To: FairOpinion
Bustamente cannot raise taxes. Arnold not only can but will.
To: McGavin999; wideawake
Exactly. Buffet is there to suggest ways to make CA more business friendly. The parts of Bush's tax cut that he opposed were the tax reform parts. Arnold won't be dealing with tax reform. He doesn't have the luxury.
To: B Knotts
He opposes tax reform, not tax cuts. They aren't the same, necessarily.
To: GraniteStateConservative
Why do you believe that this is some sort of brilliant strategic judo when the obvious explanation fits better: Arnold agrees with Buffett so he picked him? Ocam's razor.
To: FairOpinion
Since the Republicans don't have enough sense to all vote for Arnold, he needs the votes where he can get them.Oh, you mean that there are Republicans who will not give up on their principles to vote for somebody who is looking like he will screw them in the end. Good for them, but I question your opinion of who has the sense.
To: NativeNewYorker
This could be the worst move Arnold's made til now.
Warren has troubles of his own currently with Pampered Chef. Isn't Warren representing just another special interest group with the pro-choice advocates?

Do, if you prefer Bustamente, just say so, instead of coming up with all the bashing against Arnold. Nice strawman arguement. Desperate, but effective to the ignorant reader.
When did we get to the point that we weren't allowed to challenge candidates? Was that before or after you put all your eggs in the basket of this stealth Republican?
Paid for by Bustamante for Gov.

In other words, to make abortion illegal in California:
1. California constitution needs to be amended.
2. Roe v. Wade needs to be overturned.
3. The majority of the California legislators must be pro-life
4. California must elect a pro-life governor.
Now I get it. Electing a pro-life governor will make the difference.
[/s]
Yes by jove I think you have it!
And when that happens, some enterprising person will have a ship outside the three mile limit off the California coast where abortions can be performed for a reasonable cost and the shipboard Casino can compete with the Las Vegas & Indian Casinos..yeah we can legislate everything away, but just not far enough away....
To: B Knotts
Why have you given up hope? Buffet can provide plenty of useful information to Arnold on what the state needs to do to attract businesses and fix its credit rating and its energy mess.
So far there is no evidence that he doesn't plan to unveil a plan in a couple of weeks that includes cutting spending. Just wait for the plan, and then we can discuss its merits. Dreier did say last night that Arnold opposes the car tax increase.

Buffett can contribute in two areas. He can give advice on reforming business regulation, and he will be invaluable dealing with the bond market.
An adviser of Buffett's stature could save California literally billions of dollars in interest.

Maybe he could get Bubba Clinton, too. He had that whole stock bubble thingy.
To: gogeo
Useful? You mean like Buffett's opposition to a capital gains tax cut? What useful advice could this billionaire insider possible offer on how to stimulate small business to grow and entrepreneurship from the bottom up. He's got "his" thank you.
To: gogeo
And where will those billions of dollars in saved interest be spent.

I mean, I know many on FR sold their souls in the past week, but this just smacks of desperation.
You're reasoning follows that Howard Dean would be good for America because he wasn't as liberal as the admitted Marxists in the Vermont Legislature.
Lets be real clear here, Warren Buffet is most recently famous for vehemently opposing Tax Cuts, do you honestly expect me to believe that he understand the Supply Side economics necessary to fix my state's out of control spending?
Of course not, and the illegal loans are going to be coming due during the Arnold Buffet Admin, and have to be paid for at that point.
Two words. Tax Increase.

If it got within two weeks of the election and McClintock hadn't a chance,
Close - I'd suggest that the right voting strategy (and the one I'll use - I
do have the good^H^H^H^Hmisfortune of living here) is:
- If it's close between Cruz and Arnold, vote for Arnold. One chance in 10,000 that yours might actually be the deciding vote, and Arnold is the lesser of two evils. Can you imagine going through life knowing that Cruz had won by a single vote, and your vote would have changed the outcome, if only you had placed it right.
- If it's not close, either way, vote for the man you really wish would win, McClintock in this case. No chance your vote will be the tie breaker, so spend it sending an itsy bitsy teeny weenie message, a note in a bottle dropped off the Golden Gate bridge on the outgoing tide, to future generations.
- If it wasn't close because Cruz was winning, bring home a bottle of cheap whiskey, and get plastered. Just when it couldn't get any worse, it does.

If Republicans vote for Tom he will win.
The Democrats will be split between Ariana, Arnold and Cruz.
Simon needs to back out and endorse Tom. Issa needs to endorse Tom.

The polls will be screwy - the media will not want anyone to think that Tom could win.
Already Tom and Bill combined have a lead over Cruz and if all the Republicans move from Arnold, Cruz and Arnold will have to share the same voters.

That's what I've been saying for a week.
A united conservative movement would win this thing.
