"When I proposed my budget, I did not want the car tax to go up," Davis said. "I do not think it's fair that ordinary Californians bear the full burden of the budget crisis." Just keep it up, Gray. Keep it up.

What a clueless bunch. If they just freeze spending increases they could solve the budget crises, but that would be the last thing the Dems would ever vote for.
To: NormsRevenge
Lawmakers are crafting legislation that would wipe out the tripling of the car fee that is to go into effect Oct. 1. Instead, the bill would add two new top income tax brackets and bump up taxes on cigarettes. Too late for Davis, the people of California already tightened the political rope around his neck.
Davis just don't get it about taxes, illegal aliens etc. We've had enough Chucko!

Ya know..the dems have really painted themselves in a corner...I can see it now, Davis is "forced" to resign by the Cal Dems..persuaded by Bubba..so he asks all those who support him to vote for Bustamonte.....now there's an endorsement worth having..

Sounds like he's running scared.
Grayout shouldn't have raised it in the first place.

What a transparent jerk. And for him to say, If we can find a way to legally reduce the new car tax that he just imposed. The sooner this idiot is out of office the better.

A tax by any other name is still a tax

Too late, Davis, you wuss. Got my car tax bill last week -- went from $169 last year to $389 this year. (On a 2002 PT Cruiser.) You're a lame d*ck (take your pick, "i", "u", both fit.)
To: NormsRevenge
NOW Gray-out Davis is in favor or "reducing" the annual license fees n automobiles. Where was he when everybody thought it was a bad idea, and he signed the legislation that made the increases into law?
To: NormsRevenge
"If we can find a legal way to reduce the car tax while raising the taxes that I proposed in my budget in January, I would support it," Davis said. "I never intended for this burden to fall solely on the motorists of California."Liar, liar, impeccable Italian suit on fire...

"The constitution itself says that there is a two-thirds vote requirement if you are raising taxes for the purpose of raising revenues," said Steinberg, D-Sacramento. "That's the key phrase." Setting aside the semantic argument that the word "raising" can mean "collecting" rather than increasing, Steinberg is essentially stating that a sitting governor can raise taxes by fiat, with a simple majority of support from the legislature.
Davis increased fees on his own. Now, he wants to eliminate those fees and replace the supposed revenue with a tax increase. The Dems say this process is not raising taxes. They are lying, filthy scum.

So now it's a Car TAX, but when he illegally raised it without the required 2/3 vote it was a FEE. Doofus makes my governor (Paul Patton) look like a saint in comparison.
To: NormsRevenge
If they are raising anyone's taxes, and that is what a swap is, raising taxes on some and reducing it on others, then they need the super majority to pass it.

Norm-As it gets closer to the election and if it still looks like Davis is toast I think there is a good chance he will resign. Particularly if it looks like a Republican is going to get in. That way Cruz can run as the acting governor. Davis will be getting phone calls from the higher ups in the Democratic party making him an offer he cannot refuse.
