Is that a surface-to-air missile? I don't know much about missiles.

A al-Qaeda sleeper who was a Pakistani national was arrested in NYC recently who ran an import-export firm (I think it might have been Taba, not sure). This could be another member of his cell.

Yep. Quite "portable". I'm sure there are others that know more than I on this subject however.

The Stinger MANPAD is a shoulder-fired, fire and forget, infrared missile system. The missile homes in on the heat emitted by either jet or propeller-driven fixed wing aircraft or helicopters. The Stinger weapon system employs a proportional navigation system that allows it to fly an intercept course to the target. Once the missile has traveled a safe distance from the gunner, its main engine ignites and propels it to the target. The Stinger provides low altitude air defense for maneuver forces against attack by low level fixed wing or rotary wing aircraft. The follow-on Stinger Passive Optical Seeker Technique (POST) system updated the guidance sytem capability through the use of a dual color (infrared/ultraviolet) seeker. Stinger has also been fielded on the Avenger, Bradley Linebacker, and Kiowa Warrior.
Characteristics:
Guidance: Passive IR/UV
Speed: Supersonic
Navigation: Proportional w/lead bias
Length: 60 inches
Diameter: 2.75 inches
Weight: 34.5 pounds
Range: 1.86 miles
Unit Cost: $52,200
Contractor: Hughes Missile Systems Co., Tucson, AZ
