Mulholland Flip-Flops on Apology to Schwarzenegger

California Democratic Party operative Bob Mulholland reversed himself Monday night and apologized to GOP gubernatorial front-runner Arnold Schwarzenegger for saying he'd have to fight off "real bullets" during the campaign.

"I should not have used Hollywood words," Mulholland told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes." "And I apologize for that."

Mulholland insisted that he merely meant that California Democrats have real differences with Schwarzenegger on the issues when he told ABC News on Sunday, "Schwarzenegger's going to find out that, unlike the Hollywood movie set, the bullets coming at him in this campaign are going to be real bullets and he's going to have to respond to them."

The top Democratic operative's apology followed by just five hours his refusal to do so on Hannity's nationally syndicated radio broadcast.

Despite the talk host's repeated attempts to get him to apologize, the furthest Mulholland would go was to say, "I should have said 'real political bullets.'"

Then, in an apparent bid to take the bullet analogy even further, the recall opponent told Hannity, "Here's another example of something I said and no one has raised this. I said, 'People like Gov. Davis and I, like many, many other Americans in the military, we were in Vietnam. And you learn when they're shooting at you, you shoot back."

"Now, no one's complained about that," Mulholland added.

Makes sense to me... I'm not even sure why he's apolgoizing. Have we taken things so far in this world that we thought he meant they would put a hit out on him? Or have we become so neive that we want to believe every campagin will be run clean? I mean honestly we all know that these things get dirty.. sometimes it's for the best.. sometimes it's just nice to have it all laid out on the table. With crap like this it just goes to show people ARE right. My state is having a circus come to town.

Democrats hate being civil. They want to be annoying, pushy, and in your face.

Democrats like to talk about the "Clinton-haters", "mean-spirited Republicans", "uncivil debate", etc, etc. All the while, they lust for power and, like Mulholland, turn toward Bolshevik fantasies that involve killing their political adversaries. Pathetic weasels.

Reminds me of Bertrand Russell's description of being disgusted by Lenin's chortling while describing the murder of millions of kulaks. Turned him of the Soviet Union permanently: even though he remained a lefty and pacifist, Russell advocated nuking the Soviet regime in 1946!

Yeah, for goodness sake it was a metaphor. At the very MOST he should have said "that was a metaphor" and left it at that.

While I understand what Mulholland was trying to say, the way he said it made it sound like a threat, and there could be a nut somewhere who just might act on it. The left has created a bizarro-world environment in which kids are expelled from school for making a gun with their fingers and saying "bang". I say Hannity was right for giving Mulholland a dose of their own medicine.

Wait a minute … It was Mulholland’s Left that declared the use of the word “bullet”to be politically incorrect. Just ask the basketball fans in Washington.

"Baghdad Bob" is an embarrassment to Viet Nam veterans and Irish-Americans throughout CA. They fired him once...they'll fire him again...

I agree with you. Coming from the filthy mouth of Mulholland, I viewed his remark as 'call to every whacko' who might want to make a name for himself.

Whacking Arnold is the ONLY way Mulholland's party can prevent him from winning the governorship.

I'm certain the authorities have taken due notice.

Agreed.. but that's fine with me. I guess we'll have to wait to things get dirty to argue about what's over the line but for now I mean what if they bring up is pot smoking in "Pumping Iron"? Is that getting dirty or just letting people know the facts? Some dirty campagins obviously go over the line but again I think that overall it puts the knowledge in our hands and lets us decide.. nothing wrong with that at all.
