Okay, I read the first paragraph.
I remember a few years ago, this writer had at least some credibility and wrote clearly, with reasoned restraint. His stuff was posted regularly here on FR. But now? Reading this guy makes me think of a grimacing two-year-old jutting out his lower lip and on the verge of tears because somebody took his bottle. Honestly.
Absolutely pathetic.

What does it matter? I can't even refer to that paragraph- it has been pulled.

Cynicism is the sign of a mind that projects its own weakness on the reality it fails to comprehend.

Yes- I guess so. This thread is basically dead. Forget I posted it and no one need read it or discuss it. Happy news all the time.

I guess that that the admin has reconsidered and thought this post worthy of debate or at least not an objectionable post. And I thank him (or her) for that.

It is indeed racist to claim that Arabs cannot achieve representative government. There are plenty of examples of movements/groups that fight racism in one situation while perpetrating it in another. Could it be that the author is guilty of seeing things too simplistically, in black and white, good vs. evil terms?

Uh- the author is hardly a leftist- he is an old rightist and libertarian. I don't prented to know his ideological deal but his columns make sense. I doubt you have read one of them.

Oh, come on. Get down off your soapbox and tell Raimondo to get down off his crucifix. No one's trying to peddle only "happy news". Raimondo's just off being full of shit again.

The writers of the Constitution weren't thinking of Condi's kind of people in 1787. Rice is correct here. However, Raimondo accuses Rice of believeing the Convention to be akin to a cross burning. What a freaking straw man.

Thankfully, he doesn't have to argue the point with Dr. Rice. She would rip him a new ass, and rightfully so. There will never be enough dead Iraqis for Raimondo. Whatever David Kay finds can never satisfy him.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I did read the article, and chose to address just one of the author's most egregious accusations: that Dr. Rice is lying when she makes the argument about racism.

And there's a difference between a society working through the process of building a representative government (as in Iraq, it can't happen overnight)...and a whole ethnicity not being able to tolerate representative government (which is the EU political view of Arabs).

Dr. Rice was making an argument for working to reconstruct Iraq in a way that is both safer for us and better for its people. If it were indeed true that the neocons were megalomaniac imperialists, why aren't they jumping at the chance to go into Liberia? Why haven't they volunteered American troops for the other African ventures like Ivory Coast that France and the UN have tried to involve us in over the past few months? Africa has lots of natural resources - perfect fodder for the megalomaniac imperialist.

Could it be instead that they're fighting wars only to protect American interests? And that arguments in favor of helping Iraqis help us at the same time? Not everything is zero-sum, you know.

Maybe because we have three fourths of our trained combat troops over seas. We must really fell a threat to invasion and other nations to have so many troops over seas?
