Bill OReilly picked the wrong person to be a human punching bag when he invited Ann Coulter on his show. His purpose was to position himself as an independent and Coulter as a "right-wing pundit." But Coulter tried getting into the substance of her book, Treason, and OReilly was exposed as a know-nothing on the subject of Joe McCarthy.
Rebutting phony charges that she is "mean," Coulter said, "Im responding to 50 years of the liberal creation of a mythturning an honorable American, a great American patriot, Joe McCarthy, into a virtual Nazi." OReilly responded, "Im not going with that. Im not going with that. A guy who used his power to do some good but a lot of bad too." Then the following exchange occurred:

So O'Reilly said
WE bully people????? O'Reilly - the inventor of the art of bullying? O'Reilly, the guy whose veins pop out all the time?? The one who pounds his desk and screams hysterically at people he doesn't like??
BWAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!! That's funny!

Like I said, he didn't think or his staffer didn't think. Nonsense. He did just what Ann said he did: he fell face-first into the Communist McCarthy disinformation myth. I've seen so much truth mangled and twisted by those perverts over the past 50 years, I'm killing angry. O'Reilly does a lot of good but this time he got his head handed to him. The sad part is he still doesn't know it.

I assume you mean "unnecessary"; if so, it wasn't. I got a message before I "previewed" my post that all aim.org articles must be excerpted.
If you DIDN'T mean unnecessary, I'm sorry; I don't know what "uncessary" means (anything to do with sewage?).
To: jeffsher
Hmm. You are indeed right; they have to be excerpted. I hadn't a clue. My apologies.
As for "uncessary," I blame the Budweiser.

I think O'Reilly has met his match!Lots of folks can match O'Reilly. He ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, although he likes to think he is. To me he is a blowhard.
As for Coulter, I was long among those who derided her "mean" streak. But lately my respect for her has begun to rise. I am not sure what to attribute it to. Maybe it was the interview she gave here on FR with AnnaZ where she came across as very human and good-natured. Or maybe it's the way she has fearlessly walked into the minefield of McCarthyism-land and dared to loudly and wittily denounce some of the most cherished leftist conceits about the "struggle against fascism." Or maybe it's just because the uncalled-for "girly-boy" crack about her former employers at National Review, which really ticked me off and was terribly disloyal, has begun to fade from memory, and indeed deserves to be forgotten. But whatever it is, I have begun to think more highly of her. I just hope she continues to put the smart as a whip, funny wordsmith into the public square, and leaves the petulant side of her personality at home.

Good comments. I too am not a member of the Cult of Coulter as many on this forum are. But even though she occasionally goes over the top, I probably agree with her over ninety percent of the time. The real important thing she's done is bring to the fore the issue of McCarthy and that particular era in American history. For too many years leftists have been allowed to define the importance of McCarthy and the issue of communists and fellow-travelers in government.
Naturally the left would denounce any attempts by anyone to expose reds. Then as now most journalists were left or liberal in their politics. Hopefully this book by Coulter is just a first step in the battle to expose the leftist forces who have wormed their way into positions of power.

We mostly don't hate him, DTwist. It's just that he can get so pompus sometimes. And he wades into stuff of which he has absolutely no knowledge. Such as religion, so-called crop circles (he believes ET did them!), race relations, and more that I can't recall right now.
And what I don't like is how he bullies people like he did with Ann.... And far be it for him to apologize if he's ever wrong on any subject! Words that come to mind to describe him are brash, cocky, loud, boorish, stubborn, obnoxious.
Other than that, I think he's probably a really nice guy.... ;-)

why does it seem most FR folks hate O'Reilly?I like him when he exposes stupid things on his radio show. That's useful. But it sounds like Annie whipped his @$$ on this one, and he tried to change the subject when she did. He wasn't prepared for the argument, he started it, and she finished it. He lost.

Doubtless, unless either of us have been struck blind. However, no matter her looks, a wonderful argumentator (or argumentatrix, if you insist) for conservatism and Americanism, in general.
