George Orwell was only a few years off in his prediction.

Get your children used to being watched by Big Brother now, and soon they won't care when they get older. This seems to me it's just another way of indoctrination.

Where do WE draw the line on government?

He adds that students, teachers and parents in the small Gulf Coast community don't mind them at all.

Baaa-aaah! Baaa-aaah!

Drawdy says the cameras are there for safety...

But a gun in the hands of law abiding citizens isn't. ;-)

Nose pickers beware! Seriously though, this is rediculous. There is absolutely no reason why this is a good idea. All I read was statist propaganda, no common sense. As the X-Files said: Fight the Future

Almost anywhere they go these days, Americans are on camera: at work, on the road, at public events. Why should schools be different?

And you call yourselves free. What a joke.

Strange timing. The thought crossed my mind this morning that web cams in our school's classrooms would be a good way to ensure that the teachers weren't slacking off. Guess I'm part of the conspiracy.

Are you nuts? A classroom is supposed to be a public setting. I for one want to see what is (or is not) going on inside that classroom. The ability to remotely monitor what is happening in my childs classrrom and what is or is not being taught would be a major benefit to all concerned parents.

It amazes me that "Conservatives" consider that children have Constitutional Rights (unless they commit a crime). "Children", are a class and as such deserve the protection of society until they reach the age of majority and the full possession of their Constitutional imperatives. I'll admit, the camera's are a bit "Orwellian", but the only privacy I wanted my kid to have when she was in school was in the bathroom.

And kids will start using shaving cream to disable the cams before they start causing trouble.

This fascist crap makes me wanna puke.

UH.. why shouldn't they? WELL could it be that PARENTS don't want their kids pictures all over the net??? I work with several school districts and we have to have parental permission to use kid's photos..

I remember, not so long ago, when a few elementary school teachers objected to being videotaped during class instruction instead of an in-person principal evaluation. They wanted to know exactly when and what day. I don't think it was to insure a good hair day.

What if a parent complains that a teacher uses class time to promote birth control or drug use, or even terrorism?

Man, that would sure kill the "academic freedom" to commit treason and subvert our nations youth. And if that was not bad enough, someone might find out that some teachers can actually teach while most can not.

Why should schools be different?

Because in most cases people are legally FORCED to attend such schools.

Where do WE draw the line on government?

It is becoming increasingly clear that it is not where we draw the line with government, but if we even can draw the line with government.

I'd still like to think we can, but this Orwellian crap makes me want to puke!

We no longer can....

This is another example of the degradation of modern society. The cameras are in there to protect the teachers from civil suit and physical assault.

Biloxi, of course, is the town where the mayor was found guilty in having a local judge and his political candidate wife murdered in their home over a debt to members of the southland's *Dixie Mafia. And a Biloxi police officer served as the getaway driver for the triggerman- after all, who would stop him for any on-the-job traffic offense.

I'm sure the new surveillance systems will make it much easier for them to find out when their next victims are alone and vulnerable. What progress, they'll have as many cameras outside the local casinos as inside....

Public schools should be PUBLIC. I want to know exactly what kind of political misinformation (and general error) is being fed the kiddies on my dime.

Parents should have the right to replay any lesson of the days to help with homework, and to answer questions about what wierdness junior is being offered.

Focus the cameras on the teachers, first and foremost.

Imagine the websites that would be devoted to the ignorance spewed by public school teachers.

There is a big difference between the government monitoring citizens, and citizens monitoring the government education camps where their own children are taught.

Home school your kid and then you won't have to worry about "cameras in the classroom."

''It helps honest people be more honest,'' says district Superintendent Larry Drawdy...

And this nitwit has been entrusted with your child's education.

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid...
