California gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger did a round of morning show interviews Friday via satellite.

NBC's "Today," which was first up, was supposed to wrap Matt Lauer's interview at exactly 7:08 a.m. so Schwarzenegger could keep his commitment to Diane Sawyer on ABC's "Good Morning America" (at 7:10)

Attempting one of the "oldest, lamest tricks in the book," says the New York Post, Lauer tried to prolong his interview to throw "GMA" off schedule.

However, Schwarzenegger's political team in California, wise to morning-show shenanigans, simply cut Lauer's audio feed to the star at the appointed time, terminating the "Today" host's effort to disrupt its rival broadcast and leaving Lauer doing the scrambling.

I saw this, and of course, the NBC spin was that Arnold couldn't handle the last question from Matt, so he 'faked' the microphone being cut off. Someone on FNC also asserted this.

Absolutely. He has made an entire career out of working the media. He can use the media to his advantage better than almost any candidate running for office today. Anywhere.

Ah, one can only dream....

If he did this, that tells me Arnold can be a super hardass when he needs to be. That is a good sign.

They are all women - or little girly-man metrosexuals, at any rate.

This article gives some very interesting insight. At the time the audio feed was cut, Lauer was asking Arnold whether he would release his tax returns, and Arnold was saying "I can't hear you, I can't hear you."

Liberal commentators later claimed that Arnold was faking it and just trying to avoid answering a tough question. Now we have confirmation that in fact Arnold couldn't hear Lauer's question. And of course Arnold has since released his tax returns.
