NEW YORK, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the last year, local and federal law-enforcement officials say they have noted a marked increase in teen prostitution in cities across the country, reports Assistant Editor Suzanne Smalley in the August 18 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, August 11).
Law-enforcement agencies and advocacy groups that work with teen prostitutes say they are increasingly alarmed by the trend lines: the kids are getting younger; according to the FBI, the average age of a new recruit is just 13; some are as young as 9. And, while the vast majority of teen prostitutes today are runaways, illegal immigrants and children of poor urban areas, experts say a growing number now come from middle-class homes.

Well, the Stacey girl just sounds like an old-fashioned whore. The myth that all prostitutes/strippers/etc are all sexually abused women is exactly that--a myth.
We forget that with our emphasis on material acquisition, we are going to breed humans to put that at the top of their list of priorities. Often, these kids are not given a truly strong moral counterweight to natural human desire for security and comfort so we create prostitutes or in some cases, run-of-the-mill gold-diggers.

Exactly. $400 for a half hour of lying on your back will seem like easy money to these girls. They've done it for free many times before. Beats getting a job at Micky D's.

After being approached last summer by a man who told her how pretty she was, and asked if he could buy her some clothes, Stacey agreed and went home that night with a $250 outfit. And her parents didn't notice the new clothes? Where were her parents?

I knew about stuff like this being a growing trend back in 2000.
And it took a government study to figure it out?!
Cripes, with the 'self esteem' they pander to kids nowadays, along with the sex ed, it's a wonder that there aren't MORE kids out there selling what they have.
After all, they're taught that there's no blood or body there's no crime, and no scratch therefore no-one's hurt.

Where do you think "Stacey" will be ten years from now? How will she reflect on what she did as a teenager? What kind of wife or mother will she make?

This is absolutely tragic. But the point is well-made here that many of these girls are choosing to be whores. But the spotlight is on their parents: what kind of barn-style upbringing are they giving their kids? Is mom out working while Stacy is sleazing?

"Potentially good sex is a small price to pay for the freedom to spend money on what I want."This girl must be a genius :-( ... I don't think I've ever heard a more precise summation of the philosophy of our public schools. (I guess) I hope she lives to spend the bucks.

Why is it that just because some small number of children do something regrettable or tragic, the news media thinks that now it is an imminent threat to all children, something which all parents now need to worry about?
So middle-class Stacey is a whore, big deal.
To: narses
Child advocates are just as worried about, and puzzled by, girls like Stacey, who aren't forced into prostitution but instead appear to sell themselves for thrills, or money, or both. Why are they puzzled about it? It's not the least bit surprising. When the parents are dueless, or clueless, or both, have never bothered to instill the slightest shred of morality in their children, and show no concern for their welfare other than "Oh, you're going to the mall? Okay, be back by 10 ... or 3 am ... or whenever ..." you're going to get this result a lot of the time.
I used to hang out with a pretty upper-class bunch of kids as a teenager, and the ones whose parents were high-ranking executives or socialite types - you know, people so wrapped up in their own business or socializing schedules that their idea of quality family time is "Here's $150, I'll see you before bedtime, maybe" - were invariably the ones that were the wildest, most obnoxious, ill-mannered, etc.

Where do you think "Stacey" will be ten years from now?In the ground, dead.
Prostitutes do not have a very long life span, or long careers, in general.
Teen prostitutes rarely ever make it to 21.

Where do you think "Stacey" will be ten years from now? If she's from a wealthy, well-connected family, as the press release certainly indicates, she'll likely be resting on the laurels of her Ivy League degree, earning far more money than she's worth in some cushy job in the city. These kinds of people rarely have to pay any sort of price for their actions, physical or karmic.
How will she reflect on what she did as a teenager?
Other than the fact that she'll probably have herpes, she'll probably think it was a real hoot, and not regret it one bit.
What kind of wife or mother will she make?
The exact same kind of wife and mother her own mother is right now; distant, more concerned with her own pleasure or career path than for the welfare of her kids, and completely oblivious to the fact that this isn't the way it's supposed to be.

Statement: "Teen Prostitution; Trends Show Kids Getting Younger, More from Middle-Class Homes"
Response: You are suprised? Why not is the real question? In many instances their mothers are whores, movies depict whores, books, magazines depict whores, their fathers, if they can be found, are chasing whores etc.
