Perot didn't give us Clinton; Bush gave us Perot.
Actually, Perot and Clinton made a deal back in 1992. Remember the sequence of events? Clinton's candidacy was in trouble due to the stories about his womanizing. All of a sudden, Perot jumps into the race and does what? Saves Clinton's candidacy by (1) taking the focus off Clinton, and (2) becoming a magnet for disgruntled Conservatives and others. What did Perot expect in return? His Perot Systems company was going to get what would have been an immensely lucrative contract to provide the hospital software and computing resources when the Clinton health care plan became law.
Perot got out of the race when Clinton's poll numbers moved ahead of Bush's in the summer, using some lame excuse about his daughter's wedding. Perot jumped back in the race when Bush started to gain that ground back in the fall. Was the timing of his withdrawal and reentry just coincidence? If you believe that, there's this bridge for sale in Brooklyn I want to speak with you about.
