Please see polemikos's response to me and sinkspur. He provided a link, which I copied here
War in the Gulf (Iraq). What the Pope Really Said http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/879895/posts
Polemikos got it right on the bullseye when he said the press never gets it right.
But we all know that hell has a special plane for the fourth estate. ;>) I think my vision of it included cauldrons of boiling ink...

These churchmen sitting on their fat butts...In light of recent actions by the Episcopaleans, I don't appreciate the imagery this generates. ;^)

First thing I thought was "Oh snap!" ('oh snap, @itch slap!')
Though i doubt teh Bishop will understand what teh chaplain said to him.
Liberals feel they are entitled to force their opinions on others without fear that they must respect the opinions of others.

Yep, I think you've got Bishop Shamana. What's fascinating about "her" is that that's not her real name, if I remember correctly. Isn't it interesting that she chose a name that includes the word "Shaman?"
But, I could be wrong about her changing her name.....yet, I don't think I am.

Rule #1 the left is always correct.
Rule #2 in the unlikely event that the left is wrong, see rule #1.

The President said there would be a cost. We knew it. We, in this case especially, being those who would be paying the cost. So did the nation. It was never hidden. War does not come without death even of some of our own. Thanks for the ping Valin. Good to read this

Her parents names are: Sylvester and Charlene Martin from what I found quickly on the web. There wasn't anything that I found that explained the name change. She's recently married to an Episcopalian by the name of Walter Woods. Shes up in San Francisco. She used to be down here in LA and my wife has met her several times.
I looked up her bio at:
http://umns.umc.org/bios/bshamana.htm Shes obviously an artist. It is interesting that it does include the word shaman. Is Shamana feminine for shaman? My guess is that its something left over from the 60s when some African Americans dropped their slave names and chose their own last name.
She took over after Bishop Talbert actions when 6 Methodist ministers withheld their District apportionments because he wasnt going to discipline 60 some ministers for blessing same sex unions. There was a nasty legal fight over who really owned the property of a Methodist church. Since they didnt pay he wanted them evicted. Some of them turned in their credentials and are leading other non Methodist churches. Others stayed and were looking forward to dialog with the new Bishop. But that was in 2000 and I couldnt find out how she resolved it. Im pretty sure the 60 or so ministers who blessed the gay unions were not disciplined in any way despite the fact that in 1999 there was a prohibition on that kind of activity. Do you know how that worked out? Were the only ones disciplined the ones that protested the lack of following the Book of Disipline?

UCM Accountability Page
Go there for a review of how different cases had been settled. I think the case you mention is at the bottom when the accountability watch began.
I remember when the pastors quit. Wasn't Ed Ezaki (sp) one of them? I hear his church is doing very well these days.

Thanks for the ping, ms. feather!!
Excellent post, xzins. As much as a lot of us here get tired of hearing the negativity spouted about the war in Iraq, you know that those who are serving there are much more tired of it. It's always nice to get to hear them speak out against said negativity.
Look in the eyes of those who have been set free;
When I read this, a picture I saw a while back popped into mind. That picture was so wonderful, I saved it.

Our troops are responsible for the elation on these Iraqi girls' and women's faces. I still get goosebumps every time I see it.

IMHO, that picture should be on billboards across the country so everyone can see it.

Don't know if Ed Ezaki was one or not. I'm not familiar with them.
I'll be gone for a bit. I'm a chaperone for a church youth group which is going to the Heifer project in Ceres on Wednesday. Got to have that farm and 3rd world experience.
