Germany praises Bush olive branch

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- The German government said praise by U.S. President George W. Bush for German peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan showed attempts to bridge a transatlantic rift over the war in Iraq were bearing fruit.

Officials in Washington and Berlin have been working hard behind the scenes to mend fences between the two traditional allies in recent months, and Bush's comments were one of the most public signs yet that relations could be improving.

Michael,

Not related directly to this topic; however, during a search I found a site that has documents apparently scoured and written about by a German. I've also read some theory that the reason Europe looked at Uniting was related to the weakening of USA military during the 1990's; thus, EU would take over as the superpower.

Actually MNR, all law is meant to keep the honest in check and the world safe for the dishonest.

Although it often seems that way, I don't think that was the original intent.
