Pentagon officials met over a three-day period in late 2001 with a long-discredited Iranian who was a middleman in the Iran-Contra scandal, Defense Department officials said Friday.

Manucher Ghorbanifar sat in on a series of meetings in Europe between two defense officials and two other Iranians who the Bush administration had been told had information useful to the United States in its then-fledgling global war on terrorism, a senior defense official said on condition of anonymity. The meetings occurred not long after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, he said.

Should we have ignored Saddam as well?

What time period are you talking about? When we loved Sadaam when he gassed the Kurds in 88 and the last verified time he used such "WMDS"? And by the way we said nothing about that and even tried to blame it on the Iranians.

".....and then spent TWO WEEKS trying to find out what the hell "yellow cake" was."

A quick google would have given you the answer, or a visit to a dictionary.....

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!, you have managed to post every lame excuse and weak argument in the liberal arsenal. I feel like I'm debating Paul Begala or James Carville at this point..... What will be your next line.... "Bush stole the election" ???

Well, since this fella was discredited during Iran/Contra, his opinion is utterly useless, he has no truthful information about anything, and he has no business talking to anyone in our defense establishment. Ever. For any reason whatsoever.

This guy is a player that can get the ball rolling on certain issues. He's a hustler, and is out for the money, but he does know things and can get us pointed in the right direction. Just as in Afghanistan, we will have to deal with some less than trustworthy characters to get to the ultimate goal.

"Well- if that is the paul begala line how is it wrong?"

Lets see here..... "When we loved Sadaam when he gassed the Kurds in 88" We had a choice between supporting a finatical regime in Iran who had stormed our Embassy in 1979 and held our people hostage for 444 days or back Iraq a country we had trade relations with... THAT'S A NO BRAINER

Now let me address this DNC talking point.... "we loved Sadaam when he gassed the Kurds in 88, the last verified time he used such "WMDS"?" I guess you dismiss the fact that we destroyed tons of his Chem/Bio WMD's after the Gulf War and was stunned to find out just how close he was to developing a Nuclear Weapon. In fact.... If it wasn't for his two Son-in-Laws defecting to Jordan and spilling the beans on Saddam's WMD programs, Idiots like Scott Ritter would have never found them. Unfortunately, Saddam's two Son-in-Laws were executed by Uday as soon as they returned to Iraq.

I guess that Centrifuge buried in the Iraqi Nuclear Scientist backyard was put their for future use in a Baghdad Baskin Robbins ice cream store?

I guess all those Chem/Bio suits left behind on the battlefield by Saddam's Elite Republican Guard were actually meant for protecting the Iraqi troops from Mosquito bites?

Maybe you would feel better if we just apologize to Saddam and reinstate him as the beloved leader of the Iraqi people?

Funny- we still excusd the gasing in 88? 1979 was some years earlier. I know you don't care but Middle Eastern people are well aware of our hypocritical foreign policy.

As for the rest of your post- about the rose bush crap and scott ritter? Is that your rationale? Even Bush and most freepers wouldn't take you seriousely

I don't know what this guy discussed, was asked, or told. I just know that he was responsible for getting the dialogues going with officials in Iran. He has/had a lot of money, and for the right price would talk and give information. Whether he had anything substantial in this meeting to say, I have no clue.

Let me ask you one last question before I sign off and chalk another night on FR to a useless debate with an uninformed liberal.... YOU!

Please take off the tinfoil and explain to me where the scandal is with this article?

Please explain why we should have ignored the request by a shady character who wanted to give us information, reliable or not?

Have you ever known a snitch?

If so you would know that 99% of them are nothing but scum of the earth who 50% of the time are yanking your chain. That doesn't mean you refuse to hear what he has to say, it means you should treat what he says in the same manner you treat every low life snitch...... Listen, investigate and verify if you can. Intel gathering is a dirty game and the people you deal with are untrustworthy to start off with, but that doesn't mean you can't gain some valuable info from them.

You have a brain......... USE IT

Are you claiming that our government claims chem suits and atrophine shots found among our enemy is evidence of a massive WMD progrram that threatened us? Maybe National Review or the Weekly Standard claims that but no serious organization claims that at all.

MY goodness you're dense, of course it's not proof of WMD's, but, finding MOP suits and atrophine kits on the battlefield backs up the claims of Saddam possessing WMD's more than it backs your claim that Saddam should be believed over our own government.

Those kits and suits are just one peice of the puzzle, the hollowed out warheads are one more piece, the Caster beans labeled as fertilizer is another. I know it's hard for you Saddam apologist to face the facts, but Saddam aided and supported our enemies and he had his chance to avoid this war and he chose not to.

I am convinced you're a liberal fraud who will never accept anything but what your leftist lenses will filter

Now, are you of the belief that Hussein voluntarily complied with the U.N., Presidents Bush, Clinton, and Bush? Are you of the belief that Hussein was not a destabilizing factor in the middle east? If you are of that belief you should therefore be in favor of restoring Saddam Hussein to power in Iraq and letting mass graves continue. If you are not of this belief, then I'm not sure why you are making points that sound like Hussein was misunderstood and was not a threat.

Do you know anything about how to store things?

I have a friend who got in a fight with his neighbor and the neighbor died from his injuries. He decided to bury his guns because his lawyer said he would likely go to jail for a few years. He placed them in a simple plastic tube and wiped grease over them and 8 years later he dug them up and they were in the EXACT same condition as the day he buried them.

More and more you are proving yourself to be an un-informed fraud with an agenda

And YES, we'll be shown the WMDs ( some have already come out, but you refuse to acknowledge this fact )... when it's going to do the most good.

Mostly np, I think your nuts (in a good way usually)... but dang it... you certainly NAILED IT THERE... I like how you think.
I expect that about the time doctor idiot for the demos starts ranting his arse off about him having proof there were absolutely NOT any wmds... then reports will be declassified or "leaked", a few samples released... and the dems new king of the pile will be forced to eat raw crow.

Of course, you notice some of them demns seem to instinctively KNOW this is coming just in time for the election and hence are keeping their big yaps shut? They know whassup.

Bush is truely gifted at offering folks plenty of juicy feet for their gaping mouths, that are so wide open, they cannot possibly refuse a mouthful or two, of their own feet.

WMD's... I would bet on it.
like you said

If I'm not mistaken, Hussein started this war by launching a scud towards Kuwait City. Not a bomb had been dropped, nor a tank moved into Iraq when that happened. We had given him a deadline, and he responded by attacking Kuwait. (One of the many countries he has attacked)
