Anyone notice how the liberal media aren't reporting Arnold's poll numbers?

I did, about the tenth time I heard that he starts out in the lead. Not that I expect that kind of info from him, but Rush was just as guilty of not giving numbers either while basically saying Ahnold starts in the lead. I think the first 'valid' poll wont be until next Wed. to Fri. With this Sat. being the cut-off for getting in, it will take that long to get numbers with the complete field set. DiFi has got to be fuming, and I've heard other newsies say Lt. Gov. Cruz "I didn't mean to say 'n****r' to the black audience" Bustamante is in the lead, again no numbers. We have to wait to see polls taken starting Sun. or Mon., which means the middle to end of the week for the big polling houses to have 'good' numbers.

Once again -- Excellent post at #39!

You have nailed everything! All Republicans should unite behind Arnold because he really is the best thing that will happen to the Republican Party. Getting the California Governorship in Republican control would be a dream come true.

I also think Arnold will do something that is really needed in California and that is to throw out the special interest in Sacramento which is long overdue!

Well I think we now know why Arnold and Riordan like each other. They same the same things, eg it is all for the children, just with different accents. Maybe they have the same speech writer. Arnold may or may not be OK as governor. Nobody knows, including Arnold I suspect. In that sense, he is a risky scheme. He may just prove a useful idiot to grease the skids to effect a very substantial tax increase (there will be a tax increase next year, or the year after at the latest, you can write that down), without any attendant systemic reform (pension, prisons, Davis Bacon on steriods, workers' comp, health care, etc.). That is what I really fear. What we will know in a hurry is whether he has the beef, or is just another beefcake.

For all the talk of a California fiscal crisis, and there is good cause, I would like to point something out.  This last year California spent about $30 billion dollars more than it did circa 1998.  However, during this year California only increased it's debt by around $14 billion dollars.  You see, the dirty little secret is that California's revenues have continued to go up over the last five years, and rather handsomely.  In fact this last year California could have spent over twenty-one percent more than it did circa 1998, without adding one cent to it's debt load.  The problem is, Davis and Company (the Democrat controlled Legislature and Senate) couldn't control their insatiable spending.  They actually approved a budget that was forty-six percent more, thus increasing state debt by the $14 billion dollars.

During the last four years Davis hired 40-50,000 more state employees.  Some of them may have been warranted.  Many probably weren't.  I just suspect that if Schwarzenegger and crew go back over the last four budgets and eliminate some of the things Davis implemented, cut some of the additional employees and run a tight ship from here on out, we could probably retire the debt and experience a surplus within four or five years.

The problem is, he never left home without it...

Thank you for your kind words.

The essential difference between Arnold and a Liberal is simple:

Arnold is a passionate patriot, a fierce defender of America and the American Dream. He not only supports our troops overseas, he is a great inspiration to them.

He's a successful, fiscally-responsible self-made businessman trained in Economics (Univ. of Wisconsin).

Despite being a Republican, his charm, connections, past favors and sense of theatrical staging will allow him to get the face time and media coverage otherwise unattainable to conservatives due to bias.

Arnold will get the message out about special interests, union thugs and political liars in a way the media cannot ignore.

We need Arnold, and can learn greatly from him about attaining and keeping political power.

His way is the only path to GOP success on the Left Coast.

We will be well-served.

Freepers, I encourage you to welcome with open arms, the next Governor of California, Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger!

I am sure that Bustabudget IS worse than Gray-out Davis, but he's a Democrat, and, together with a Democrat legislature, he'll crash the People's Republik of Kalifornia bigtime. With a little luck, this will discredit Democrats in the PRK and even nationally. Just the thought of replacing the PRKs commie congresscritters with semi-conservatives, and getting all those electoral votes for Republicans...

If Aaaahnold the RINO wins, he'll have to fight a Democrat Legislature (didn't know about the line-item veto, though, that should help a lot), the PRK will STILL auger in, and the Republicans will get ALL the blame, even though Democrats created and exacerbated the problem. This is likely to spill over to national candidates as well. The electoral votes and congresscritters will still belong to the Democrats and, in the next election you get another Democrat governor - same old, same old.

It doesn't help that Schwartzenegger IS a RINO and will likely keep the current high level of social spending (yes I know about the books - how do you spend $6-10K+ per kinder and still NOT be able to afford new text books?). At the same time he ain't gonna inspire one issue pro-gun types (like me). If he was pro-gun and promised to enforce Prop 187, I would call him Saint Arnold and support an amendment to the Constitution to allow him to run for President. As it stands he is just Micheal Bloomburg with muscles, just like Rush said.

I am sorry for (some of) the folks who live there, but the best thing for the nation as a whole is to let the PRK crash in flames with a Democrat at the controls as an example of how NOT to do things (like don't elect Democrats, don't spend like you expect financial booms to last forever, don't pass obnoxious enviromental laws, don't tolerate illegal immigration, etc.).

You really don't wanna go there. The Demorats, at a national level, are banking everything on 1) no economic recovery, 2) failure with foreign affairs. They are banking everything on bad things happening for the US. Bad news for the US is good news for the Demorats. Is that where you wanna go?

The governor, even Davis, has the ability to control the budget deficit. Davis is being recalled because he failed to do so, quite miserably. Arnold, or any other competent governor, can fix the deficit in one year.

The problems Cali is having are causing real people, real problems. I don't think it is appropriate that you want people to suffer to make a political point, when we can fix the problem. The recall is the fix, and we should all thank Issa who got it rolling. We don't want to waste a golden opportunity.

Arnold can be a boon to the Republican party in Cali, and nationally.
