Students In Vanguard Of Conservative Cause (Good News)

Glen Mills residents Charles Mitchell and Denise Chaykun captured national attention after landing on the cover of the New York Times Magazine section.

The May 25 issue of the Times included an article by John Colapinto about the rise of conservative action groups on college campuses, focusing in particular on what Mitchell and Ms. Chaykun have accomplished at Bucknell University with their conservatives club.

Mitchell, the organization's 2003-2004 president, has since appeared on a number of television programs. Mitchell, 20, and Ms. Chaykun, 21, are 2001 and 2000 graduates of Garnet Valley High School, respectively, where they began dating.

They picked Bucknell because it was a small, private liberal-arts school with a prestigious reputation and that was fairly close to home.

Mitchell, who will be a junior, is majoring in economics and history, while Ms. Chaykun, a senior, is majoring in psychology and history. Their political beliefs compelled them

This was not "good news" The NY Slimes was reporting; it was a call to action so this kind of young conservative thinking doesn't spread. ;-)

I'm also optimistic about the youngsters of America. I'm seeing my sons'(elementary school) classmates being raised with more parental involvement and more old-fashioned decency than we've generally seen in the past generation. They're a terrific bunch of kids.
