Sen. Hillary Clinton's recent praise for the "white suburbs" of her youth is drawing fire from two prominent civil rights groups, with leaders of both organizations agreeing that a Republican senator who made the same remark would be deluged with calls for his resignation.
"Where's the outcry from the mainstream media and Democrats about Hillary Clinton's statements?" complained the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, head of the Los Angeles-based Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny[BOND].
"These people were all over Trent Lott calling him a racist and accusing him of being nostalgic about the Jim Crow era," Peterson told NewsMax. "This is a double standard."
Congress of Racial Equality [CORE] spokesman Niger Innis agreed that Hillary is getting a pass.
"People like Hillary and [the Rev. Al] Sharpton never have to pay for 'slips' of the tongue when others do," Innis told NewsMax.
While noting that Sen. Clinton's slip was "fairly innocent," he observed, "If it had been a Republican, they'd be crucified!"
In comments otherwise ignored by the press, the Democrat's most popular presidential prospect told the American Constitution Society on Friday that Republicans wanted to take America "back to the 1950s white suburbs for family life, which I grew up in and write about in my book and am very grateful for."
Rev. Peterson said Sen. Clinton needs to explain why she's "very grateful" for growing up in an all-white neighborhood.
"I thought she loved black people," he told NewsMax. "Did she mean she was happy to live in an era of segregation and Jim Crow?"
If not, says Peterson, "Hillary owes black Americans an explanation about what she meant when she said she was 'very grateful' to have grown up in 'the 1950s white suburbs.'"

"I thought she loved black people," he told NewsMax.Only as long as they are useful to her.

Oh please. I've had it with these worthless black racists! Go back to your inner city and celebrate your sub-culture's demise!

I too am very grateful to have grown up in a white, upper-middle class suburb. No crime, no violence, no racial strife, and no Hillary!

Peterson is one of the good guys. Yes, but in this case, he sounds just like Al Sharpton. This is not a principled complaint, he just wants to jab a Democrat.

IMO, he is pointing out the double-standard of the media. From what I have read of Peterson, he is not a blowhard like Sharpton or Jackson.

Did you actually read the article?? Yes. More race-baiting from one of our own. I thought so-called "principled" black leaders like Rev. Peterson would know better. I lost some respect for him. This is a purely partisan move, and it makes him look as petty as Sharpton and the other race-baiters on the Left.

From what I have read of Peterson, he is not a blowhard like Sharpton or Jackson. He has not been in the past. These comments he made are just stupid, IMHO. Can you imagine someone like Ward Connerly stooping to the Left's tactics just to make a partisan jab? Peterson made a mistake, that's all.

Hmmm, I've actually met Rev. Peterson and I don't get that feel at all.
He's using the media to show the extreme double standard. If we can't point out what they are doing, then it's letting them win by default. He is correct in his assessment.
Ok, I have to go back to work now.
To: SunStar
In all honesty, he, and Innis, are bringing up a valid point. Innis goes on to say that he thinks that the comment was fairly innocent. However, they are right that if a Republican had said something along that line, the media would be all over the person.
To: SunStar
Democrats are long overdue a good jabbing. They've been getting away with this stuff (compliments the mainstream media) for far too many years. We've just turned the other cheek; it's time to give them a dose of their own BS.

"is it back to the 1950s white suburbs for family life, which I grew up in and write about in my book and am very grateful for but didn't exactly describe the universal experience in America? Bingo, Hillary. Our goal is a 1950's-style family life for all races and classes. You're grateful you experienced it, you're upset that it wasn't universal in your time -- yet you and your ilk are doing your best, not to make it universal, but to make it EXTINCT. Why?

Pointing out a double standard is race-baiting? Republicans should happily accept a double standard?

Calling attention to the double standard of liberal rhetoric
is one of the best things he can do. If enough people hear it some of it may sink in. I don't think he is race baiting, rather pointing out the truth. IMHO, this statement by the junior senator from new york makes sen. Lott's recent
blunder pale in comparison. (no pun intended)

Nowhere, she's a democrat and they get free rides.
