"You're determined to get this up, aren't you? One has to wonder why."

To annoy Bushbots who do not comprehend liberty?

No, so that you holier than thou types can come on here and post self-serving condescending remarks like that to make yourself feel like you actually matter.

Howlin, I was not being holier than thou or condescending. Everyone can learn SOMEthing from everyone else--I can surely learn from you. You might even learn something from me. That's the reason we (well, except for some, one of whom has posted on this thread) post replies, isn't it? I asked you a sincere question.

Can you direct me to any threads that discuss Bush authorizing a 30% tariff on steel imports last year that caused a net loss of American jobs just to satisfy the steel labor unions and the current endorsement from steel unions of Gephardt for president? It was mentioned today on the editorial page of the WSJ. Do you think Bush will rescind the tariff?

I looked, but could not tonight. There is a fair amount of discussion on free trade/tariffs, etc. on Jerry Pournelle's web site (www.jerrypournelle.com), an excellent site. There is a lot of give and take (curiously, he is FOR tariffs), but you have to read through the mail to get it.

I just hope they don't get their faces dirty.

Their faces never get dirty. Someone always washes it for them. They never have to pay the price of their actions.

With all due respect, Shooter, what about this constitutes BS?

Actually, no offense intended, but Shooter did have some good comments on this that he FReepmailed to me. I'll leave it up to him to respond, but he did have some viable points.

It's a sad testament on the current state of American politics that we who still live for liberty and know what it truly means to be an American are forced to choose amongst populist politicians who will merely decimate our rights the least.

I respectfully disagree. I think they will pay dearly. Look what happened to Bush Sr. when he alienated core constituents to make nice with the liberals. I just hope this one comes to his senses before it's too late.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Bush doesn't support the second ammendment, no shock there.

No apologies necessary, gillman. It's to be expected that we gunowners, being on the bleeding edge of the fight to preserve what tattered remains still exist of American liberty, are rubbed a bit raw by the shameless pandering and utter disregard for Constitutional law.

My view from the saddle is this: After nearly a century now of gradual erosion, enough of the herd is starting to get spooked enough to where we might be able to reverse course. But as it has taken decades of socialism and "feel good happy-crap" politics to bring us to our current state of affairs, it will similarly take decades to rebuild. Barring any unforeseen disasters, foreign or domestic, of course.

Stay well,

"Actually, this is no news."

I'm sure you can find a Kobe or Ah-nold thread to your liking. To some folks this may be news. There are new voters out there and issue activists who could benefit from this material.

If people do their homework, as in proper political research of viable candidates, they'd already be aware of this well known fact, about where PresBush stands on the assault weapons ban. Btw, I happen to disagree with the President on this issue.

And the "Arnald" threads are fun, but whose this Kobe character? =^)

You can't expect all people to sniff out this info.

Most folks on this forum disagree with Bush on this, but there is no groundswell to get him to change his position.

The last I heard, Congress was set to reverse the assault weapons ban later this year. I doubt Bush will veto it either. Sadly, he hasn't vetoed anything yet. The Farm Bill was a prime example of excessive government spending that Bush should have challenged and threatened with a veto.

We should feel optimistic that this will be reversed. Otherwise, it is a sure fire loser for Bush.

As I have stated before, if Bush signs this I will not vote for him

What has me worried right now is that Illinois state dems are leaning on Hastert (threatening to withold state funds for his district, etc.) if he doesn't let the bill go thru the house
