Playing a "generation card" is just as tasteless and logically fallacious as playing a race card, and ultimately plays into the hands of the liberals.

But some people are very stuck in their generation just like some people are stuck in their race ---demanding affirmative action and quotas etc. It's almost a choice ---you can set yourself apart ---don't belong to any generation --or belong to all of them.

Huh? FICA is capped at what, 85k at 15%? So that amounts to maybe $12,750/yr? And you rent in Arlinton, VA, for 66% of that, 8500/yr,or 710/mo?

I don't live in Arlinton but rather a remote cabin in the Rockies.

My income is more than the number stated and my rent is less than the number stated.

Regards,

AS235

What's the use of a human being after retirement if they haven't prepared (saved lots of money) for their own retirement?

Someone should only retire if they've set enough money away and can afford to do that. Otherwise just go on working and supporting your own self. Working is better for you anyway.

It's my Xer son who thinks everyone should have entitlements,

You should have drowned the little bugger like a kitten at the first sign Socialism.

Get him a copy of Bastiat's The Law and perhaps David (son of Milton) Friedman's The Machinery of Freedom.

If that doesn't work its never too late for the river.

Don't have kids.

You should have a lot of kids ---- that way if things go from bad to worse and you were half way nice to them, one might let you use a room out back and the rest might chip in $10-20 a week or so for you to eat.

This author is so narcisstic it should be labelled "humor".

I'm a Gen-Xer, and the amount of smug egotistical self-righteousness and generational hatred posted by most of the other Gen-Xers in this thread is making me embarrassed to be one.

I even pinged the lady's hubby to the thread but I guess he doesn't hang out here anymore.

I picked the name during the recount. I do not agree with every policy but I've learned to love the name as major league clymers attack me for the name.

But you see, it's not "baby boomers" who is the boogey man.

It's leftist, socialists. And they come from boomers, GenXers, GenYers, WWII generation, all generations.

They come from Democrats, from Republicans, Environmentalists, anarchists, Communists, Socialists, moral authoritarians, Nazi's, white supremeicists, every single political party practically.

Our only hope is the people who believe in limited government, and our founding fathers vision and hope placed in our constitution. And the only consistent political groups in this venue are the small "l" libertarians and the constitutionalist types.

I agree. But I didn't play the "generation card", the Republicans did with the greatest expasion of the welfare state since LBJ.

Are you the author of this article, or did you just post it?

I merely posted it, I don't neccesarily agree with it.

I was merely curious to see if the issue had legs.

Apparently it does.

Speaking only for myself, I just really don't have much love for people who would stick a gun in my face and rob me. Why would you?

Gen Xers grew up with Reagan as president on TV and first voted for GWB, and we will again!

And so the generation that introduced us to political identity groups (search) and the culture of victimization now sees itself as an identity group, and an aging generation of victims. And now they want entitlements.

It is "baby-boomers" who are the boogey-man if they see themselves as some kind of groups who is owed some kind of entitlements. Sort of like those who demand affirmative action for their skin color or because of the language their ancestors spoke. Anyonw who believes they should have money they didn't earn themselves is a danger to society.

I was just wondering, since you seem to have thought I was accusing you personally of playing the "generation card." (I'm not; I'm accusing the author.)

MANY of the Gen X'ers (I am one) associate with are STRONG libertarians and dislike the Republicans and HATE the Democrats. The next 20-30 years should be interesting.

Let's destroy the Democrat party then we can have a good two pary system Republican v. Libertarian. Ideally the answer would be somewhere between those two.

Our only hope is the people who believe in limited government, and our founding fathers vision and hope placed in our constitution.

Unfortunately, that is not the current trend.
