Hundreds show early to meet Sen. Clinton [Some telling facts]
The San Diego Union Tribune ^ | 8/6/03 | David E. Graham

Posted on 08/06/2003 9:37:24 AM PDT by Gothmog

Excerpts from a San Diego Union tribune article:

"For hundreds, the promise of even a fleeting meeting made the long, hot wait bearable as they lined the sidewalk for blocks yesterday outside Warwick's bookstore in La Jolla to have Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York sign a copy of her biography, 'Living History.'"

Snip

"The more ambitious shook hands, exchanged some small story for a few seconds and left beaming."

"Because only 90 minutes were allotted to sign the 900 books available, Clinton maintained a fast pace, on average six seconds for each purchaser. Often, Clinton kept signing books while she chatted."

Snip

"She would take only one question from the media, and that was about her thoughts on the recall of Gov. Gray Davis."

Compare that w/ what she said on Leno the night before:

Hillary: "I love living in New York and representing New York and I'm having a great time going around the country on this book tour. I've met so many fabulous people. Yeah, I mean, I think probably in the last two months about twenty-seven thousand people have to come see me at these book signings.

Leno: "So you've signed, your hand, um you should have one arm like this shouldn't you? (Jay holds up clawed hand and bent arm indicating carpal tunnel, Hillary does the same.)

Hillary: "Well, you know, it's such an invigorating experience. It's just this part of my body (holds wrist) from my wrist down that gets really worn out. But people have been terrific. They, you know, they come through the line, they have stories. They tell me this is the first book they've ever bought, or they bring their daughters to meet me."

A whole six seconds she spends listening to people's stories while she's busy signing books. They must be really fast talkers, ha ha ha. And I love the part about only taking one question from the media. What a public servant!

Note: I excerpted the article because most of the rest was just describing her brainless fans. If you really feel like annoying yourself, remember -- it takes less time to click on the link than it does to nag me about it.

Doesn't she live in D.C.?

I read an article the other day where her representative said she signed 1500 books in an hour and a half.

That comes out to about 3 1/2 seconds per person.

One thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thou...

Not very long, is it?

BTW, I timed this: it took 12 seconds to post. :-)

"Jay, there are tens of millions of people who have never read a printed book.
You cannot believe, Jay, how many people I have met who have told me
that MY book is the FIRST BOOK they have ever owned and read."

Clinton fans own other books, but they have either colored outside the lines or they have colored all the pretty pictures

I wonder how many "you know"s will fit in a six-second interval?

Mean while in Buffalo, a city that she promised to deliver jobs to during her campaign for senate, a city who has just been force into a control board situation because it is basically gone bankrupt, a city that is losing more tax base everyday as jobs and people flock away from the horrific tax and regulatory burdens native to that area, her constituants can be heard asking "where the hell is our savior Hillary".

Maybe if these people would take the time to read they would understand what is really going on in the world.
It sounds like all of her fans receive all of their news from the media. That explains allot.

I just have one question-when she takes a question from the media, does she allow them to make eye contact? Or look directly at her at all?

Oh, I forgot about this part from the SDUT article:

"Said another customer, her autographed book in hand: 'We'll see you in the White House.' Clinton, without responding, turned her attention to the next person in line."

Question, does she treat her fans or the press (I know, redundant) worse?

Hm. So that's it. She agrees to sign only a handful to get her "fans" to stand in line to be one who gets a signed copy. Also, if these folks have never bought a book before, then they are not going to buy this one. Someone, somewhere, told them to show up there and buy a copy. And Hillary seems to know that these are people who do not have much money... so she knows about these marketing plans.
