Intruder shot by Gardnerville homeowner identified

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) - Douglas County investigators Monday identified a man who was shot and killed by a homeowner after trying to force his way into a Gardnerville residence.

An autopsy determined Walter Francis Hetrick, 40, of Antioch, Calif., died of a severed femoral artery caused by a gunshot wound, the sheriff's office said.

According to investigators, the homeowner on Log Cabin Road called 911 at 11:24 p.m. Saturday, saying someone was trying to force his way into the home.

The caller also told dispatchers that the homeowner was armed, authorities said.

A minute later, several shots were fired from a .357 revolver.

Officers responding to the scene found Hetrick lying inside the home, the sheriff's office said.

He was taken to the Carson Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed and the homeowner involved has not been identified.

The sheriff's office said detectives hope to complete their investigation by the end of the week and submit it to the district attorney office for review.

Severed femoral artery will take you to the next place in about 20 seconds. Instant loss of hydraulic pressure to the upper paddock if you know what I mean.

I've only heard otherwise from Liddy. Two to the chest, one to the head. A groin hit would only wound a man and a wounded man can still kill you. Doesn't strike me as something Liddy would say.

In order to guarantee dropping somebody, the groin/pelvic region is the most efficent. A person can survive a shot to the chest/shoulder region and still be mobile, providing that you don't hid something vital. Many persons have continued the fight with chest and shoulder hits.

However, virtually NOBODY is capable of fighting after a hit to the pelvic/groin regiion. This region virtually guarantees a bone hit and nobody can stand up to that. Not a bad policy.

I bet that if this person had not called 911 and had a recording of what was taking place, this person would be arrested or charged with something.

Police departments contract haz-mat cleaners to mop up the bodily fluids after a good o'l fashioned no-knock raid. As for the rounds in the walls and woodwork I would leave them for bragging rights much like manly scars.

I recently bought a junked British sports car and had it delivered from New Mexico. It had the front crossmember catch a tree stump at about 75mph bringing it to an instant stop. The occupant was a missile in waiting and was wearing a lap belt(pre shoulder harness vintage) and the belt was loose. He was lodged in the windshield, dead. The accident took place years ago but every time I dismantle another part for use in building one good car I find more crusty blood and hair.

I'll name my finished car "Christine".

You don't shoot to kill, you don't shoot to wound, you SHOOT TO STOP.

And the way the laws in our state are structured, you'd better not say anything else than you were trying to shoot for center of mass.

Anything else weakens the affirmative defense that you were trying to defend yourself.

I saw a well-dressed guy and a gal in an indoor range several years ago. They put up a man-shaped target. He took out a brand new Walther (PP, PPK/S or something similar) and fired a few ineffective shots. Then she took the gun and emptied a magazine into the heart area, rapid-fire. Then she loaded up again and emptied it into the groin area.

I pity the poor fool who takes her on.

Seems like I heard Liddy espouse hitting the groin area if the perp had a bulletproof vest on. It's been awhile since I heard his show, so I could be wrong.
