'Priceless' AIDS research stolen

DURBAN, South Africa, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- South African criminals stole a computer from a U.S. scientist holding years of research into an AIDS vaccine.

Professor James Mullins from George Washington University was mugged by seven men outside his Durban hotel where he was due to release his findings at South Africa's first-ever conference on AIDS.

Mullins has offered a reward of nearly $1,000 for the return of his laptop, the South African Broadcasting Co. said.

The news agency said police are unlikely to find those responsible as less than 10 percent of South Africa's violent criminals are convicted.

I imagine he did, but being in the midst of the conference without his laptop is probably pain in the ass.
The irony of this whole situation isn't lost on me...

Note to self: cancel late-summer trip to South Africa.

Crymea river.

This is the wonderful culture they would force Americans to emulate and revere above our own.

When I wrote my thesis about 10 years ago, I had copies on two seperate computers in the lab, on floppies in the lab and on floppies at home. I was paranoid about backing up.

From simple carbon paper copies to simple idiots with no dups

Our most important product

How long does it take to C&P and make copies?

I make them and put them also on 7 different email sites

I trust nothing with important stuff
