SACRAMENTO - With new polling showing Gov. Gray Davis facing tough odds to save his job, jittery Democrats met around the state Monday to consider breaking ranks and urging U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein or another prominent party leader to run in the historic recall race.

``I have about 64 days between now and the election and I am going to allocate virtually all my time to doing the job the people elected me to do,'' Davis said. Bwahahahahahhahaaaaa!!! Oh ho hooooo!!!

I love the smell of the Dems imploding in the morning. The only thing better would be electing a conservative as the state's next governor.

``Even Democrats like Riordan more than Davis.'' Democrats like Riordan more than Republicans do.
What's the downside for them if Riordan wins? They end up with a Governor who is to the left of Davis on social issues, and if the California economy continues to implode (which it will) they'll have a Republican to blame it on.
Actually, the dream result for Republicans would be a successful Davis recall coupled with a Democrat victory. Once Davis is out of the way but the state's problems do not abate in the slightest, it should become obvious to all that the Democratic Party's policies are the problem, not just the liar holding the Governor's office.
To: Uncle Hal
Just electing someone like Riordan who at least won't blame the state's woes on Bush is a step forward. In fact, we'd then have Riordan and Bush next year who would blame Davis and stupid liberal policies and Davis wouldn't have a microphone to respond with.

Oh, and to all the people weeping about the possibility of a Riordan win, ask yourself why the Democrats have such a problem with it if there's no difference between Riordan and Davis.

Has anybody else noticed what a delicious irony it is that Davis' labor machine thirsting only for power is now working AGAINST the rest of the Democratic party?
In the past week, a growing number of party leaders have begun to question the governor's plan to keep other Democrats off the ballot. Among them is Feinstein's partner in the U.S. Senate, Democrat Barbara Boxer. ``The bottom line is we're testing that strategy as to whether you stop the recall if you don't have another major candidate,'' Boxer said Monday during a visit to the U.S. Mint in San Francisco. ``If it's not working, I think we have to be ready to have plan two.'' Three members of Congress last week urged Feinstein to run, but Davis has so far succeeded in persuading top Democrats not to put their names on the ballot. The governor's efforts received a boost Monday from the executive council of the AFL-CIO, which sent a letter to California's elected leaders, asking them to support Davis.
Listen to him Demos, don't run. Stay home. Then all your voters will stay home too!

While Democrats wrestled with their political strategy, Republicans kept vigil and waited for their two leading contenders -- Schwarzenegger and Riordan -- to make up their minds. Schwarzenegger advisers said the actor is still leaning against running -- but political strategist George Gorton said there is still a chance The Terminator will surprise Californians when he makes his decision public on Wednesday before appearing on ``The Tonight Show.'' ``He told me this morning: `George, don't assume I'm not running <<
Dems need not worry. It appears the GOP "frontrunners" are all RINOs who would pretty much continue all of Governor's Doofus's liberal policies.

I'm sure Boxer would not mind being the Senior Senator from CA,
If it takes stuffing Feinstein in a dead-end job, so be it.

In fact, McClintock is the only one who has formally filed all the paperwork as a candidate. Simon is still on the fence.

He may want to let people know about it - I haven't seen anything except a report yesterday that he intended to file today - His website says nothing
Dosen't he like publicity ?
