Arnold has been silent on whether or not he will run for governor. We won't know for sure until Wednesday. But we do know as of today that his interest in the recall is more than casual. The Rescue California committee has just filed an electronic report with the Secretary of State's office disclosing a $50,000 contribution to the recall campaign received from Schwarzenegger on Aug. 3.

Whew! Thank goodness! I hadn't seen a Schwarzenegger thread all morning, and I was starting to worry the server might be acting up. :-)

I think the strategery is Arnold will string this out until the last possible minute making it more difficult for those who campaign against him.

Well... I almost feel bad about the scathing letter I wrote weeks ago accusing him of fence sitting while the recall went on.

Ha ha ha, well, since you're so interested, there's also this excerpt from the San Jose Mercury News (8/5):
http://www.bayarea.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/6460718.htm "Schwarzenegger advisers said the actor is still leaning against running -- but political strategist George Gorton said there is still a chance The Terminator will surprise Californians when he makes his decision public on Wednesday before appearing on 'The Tonight Show.'
"'He told me this morning: "George, don't assume I'm not running,"' he said."

This is probably his best chance ever of becoming governor of California. If he pulls a mario Cuomo, "to run or not to run, that is the question", he can forget about high office again.

He can string this along as long as he likes, but when all's said and done, I
still don't give a crap about that RINO or his RINO buddy, Riordan!
Less stories about the RINOS. More stories about McClintock!

I think hes waiting to the last minute to keep the Dems off balance as to whether they should put a replacement for Davis on the ballot. shreWd
To: tractorman
I don't know why waiting a few days is going to make a difference when Davis, etc. will have weeks to attack him. Here's the line his spokesman has given for the delay and Leno venue:
"But Schwarzenegger adviser Sean Walsh said that the actor had carefully weighed his options -- and deeply respects his public following -- and that the appearance with Leno signaled just that.
"'Arnold Schwarzenegger is a (political) outsider with business experience and takes a common-person approach to politics,' Walsh said. 'Using "The Tonight Show" as a vehicle affords him the ability to communicate to millions of Californians and tens of millions of Americans unedited and in their own living rooms. A traditional press conference gives you a 30-second sound bite on the news and a one-sentence quote in a newspaper.'
"Walsh didn't mention that Leno's couch has another plus: no questions from reporters.
"Those close to the actor's campaign say the decision was also made out of fear of a 'feeding frenzy' atmosphere at a press conference, where he wouldn't have the time or luxury to answer questions at length.
"'Why should he do the same old tired thing every politician does?' Walsh said. 'If you compare the ratings between Leno and Larry King, there's no comparison. Larry King is appealing to insiders -- but you're not getting to the great mass of the electorate that goes to work, comes home and eats Hamburger Helper. These are the people who vote.'" I was thinking about this, and I realized the truth is probably that Arnold is looking at this from the point of view of a filmmaker.
He's getting a lot more free attention for himself by being on this show. He has made people in great suspense as to his intentions. So there is going to be a great cathartic relief, a release of tension, when he makes his announcement.
I think he's going to run -- because you don't make a big fuss about not running.
Arnold knows the media eats up stuff like this. So he gets millions of dollars worth of free publicity for his campaign without spending a dime.
He's not dumb, this guy.
If that's his strategy ... you know, the more I see him, the more I like the guy. He's a master.

Thanks for the info.
Im just an interested observer out here in the heartland but Im hoping Kalifornia keeps the conservative momentum going all the way to 04 and goes to W.
Hey I can dream cant I?

The Gate is not the Chron.
To: Beelzebubba
Not to get into a pissing match since I'm not an expert on CA papers, but maybe the 'Gate' is the web site. When you follow the link it ID's it as a SFChron article in the top right corner and lists the reporter as:
"Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer"
I'm going to go with SFChron.
