Not to get into a pissing match since I'm not an expert on CA papers, but maybe the 'Gate' is the web site. When you follow the link it ID's it as a SFChron article in the top right corner and lists the reporter as:

"Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer"

I'm going to go with SFChron.
