Australian killed in blast
NATIONAL police spokesman Zainury Lubis has confirmed the death toll for the Jakarta blast is 10 - including one Australian.
One American and one Malaysian, as well as seven others, were killed in the blast. No identities or further details were released.
Police were continuing to comb the wreckage for further victims.
The US victim was among seven bodies at the state-run Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital morgue.
An ambulance crew was seen unloading seven plastic bags containing body parts but the crew declined to comment.
"It looks like they were all burned," said a morgue official, Oyon, after the first bodies arrived.
MMC Hospital, one of four which received the dead and wounded from the blast, and the nearest to scene, treated 43 patients but most were quickly discharged, said its spokeswoman Anitya Irna.
She said four patients were in the hospital's burn unit for treatment of burns to about 30 percent of their bodies.
An American and an Australian were among those being treated at MMC for minor injuries, Irna said.

On the Thursday after 9/11, a man who was convicted of the 1998 Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania was to be sentenced a few blocks from the World Trade Center. This has the same al Qaeda feel, with a much lower body count.
Maybe this will inspire Indonesia to take much stronger measures against the al Qaeda-affiliated groups in their midst.

I thought Bali woke them up.This is a relatively moderate muslim society which the jihadists hate.Of course the Marriott is a symbol but I hear it was thought to be secure. These suicide bombers are lethal.Backhoe has a great file on this bunch.

Let's see what the media paints this as, and the words they use to describe this incident, in addition to what the US might say about it. Then, let's compare it to what they say when an incident of this sort happens in Israel.

I wonder if Muslims had anything to do with this.

What is wrong with the Republican leadership? I see Larry King with his round table of a couple of journalists, Ex-Gov Bill Graham and Senator Kay Hutchinson. This after Howard Dean makes his pathetic play to a national audience.
They get into a discussion of homeland security and the republican enemies start harping on how -0- has been done to secure the ports and the borders and Hutchinson just sits there and takes it. Well of course it's IMPOSSIBLE to secure a free country, hence our decision to plop down smack in the middle of Islamoland and get busy building human intel links. We have no chance of averting a large scale attack by pissing off all the good people to try and catch a hider (on an airliner or cargo ship or border). We only have a chance by building human intelligence. It's obvious we knew jack shit about the ME before Afghanistan and Iraq. The Administration understandly fully the futility of trying to avert the disaster on the back end. All they can ask is for every citizen to act as a militia man for the republic.
The front end (establishing human intel links in the badlands) is where the plots will be uncovered. Did Hutchinson say anything like this. No.
Shame on the Republicans for being so benign in the face of this negative onslaught.

Will guys like Dennis Kucinich and Howard Dean, if president, call a "Summit Meeting" with these islamofascist guys and 'try to work out our differences'?

That's my question. What exactly is the Democrat stance on terrorism? That it's "not good". What would they propose we do? Let the UN handle it? Appeasement? Sell them nuclear technology so we'll all be on the same playing field? Well Dean, Kucinich, Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards, Sharpton, Graham, Braun?????
