(BARDSTOWN, Ky., August 4th, 2003, 4:30 pm) -- The massive wooden structure was ablaze and firefighters were focused on three nearby warehouses, said Bardstown City Administrator Larry Green.
"Only one of them is on fire and they're working to make sure that it stays that way and to contain the burning whisky that's coming out of that warehouse," Green said

I caught this on WHAS radio on the way home from work. It is bad, but not like the Heaven Hill fire of several years back. That one leaped from warehouse to warehouse as there were 60 mph winds that day. Eventually 6 warehouses burned. The Nelson County Fire Chief (sorry folks Jim Beam is not distilled in Bourbon County) estimated this fire will burn for 3 or 4 days.

You can't get 200 proof that is drinkable. Ethanol forms an azeotrope with water that boils off at 78.15 degrees. Pure ethanol has a boiling point of 78.3 degrees C. The azeotrope is 95% ethanol/5% water...190 proof. To get 100% ethanol, you add benzene to carry off the water, but that makes it unfit for consumption.Sounds like what ya put in the car's radiator before the snow starts flyin'.

Old Bushmills distillery burned down completely not too many years ago ... my parents said it's all new since we toured in the early 80's. That was good whiskey!

My apology on the Bushkill. But, posting a picture of Mel Gibson? I don't get the connection.
And corn is the Sothren American grain from which my Irish ancestors created The American whiskey.

End of argument.
I have to go sand a hardwood floor for a bit

And in my family lets just say there were a few 'shine runners. And let's just say that my great-great grandfather "decided" to plant the family in Texas after bootlegging became a less than favored activity in Tennessee.
LOL. Always a few "horse thieves" in any family tree.

That indeed, is the latest from the Ops Center, too.
We're looking at containment - no way we can get it out, just let her burn.
People aren't daring to try and put a dollar value on the lost booze. 80K gallons estimated loss.
I'm wondering if it was a ZOT! that went astray?
