Clergy and bishops who distribute the Vatican's latest publication describing homosexual activity as "evil" could face prosecution under incitement to hatred legislation...Ms Aisling Reidy, director of the ICCL, warned yesterday that the statement could be in violation of the 1989 Incitement to Hatred Act. Those convicted under the Act can face jail terms of up to six months.

The Republic of Ireland is 93% Catholic and the Irish people have a LONG history of killing people and destroying things in the name of their church. If they'll wage centuries of warfare over the presence of Protestants on Irish Catholic soil, I can't wait to see what happens when the liberals start imprisoning their bishops and clergy. Northern Ireland will look like a fistfight at a keg party in comparison to the fireworks that would set off. Which makes me wonder...how would the EU react to a popular uprising in one of their member states?

People of (catholic) faith invented the Inquisition.

Your point?

Ah, that tired old agnostic/atheistic canard comes into play once again, i.e.,

"You [insert despised group of religionists here] are never happy unless you're persecuting someone or being persecuted."

Don't be so full of yourself.

He will never apologize. An apostate liberal's favorite tactic is to obfuscate, mutate the discussion, call names, make fun of your nick like a sandbox warrior or "put you on ignore" when he is clearly losing.

Just watch.

Your anti-Catholic view of the history of Ireland is pathetic. But otherwise you make a good point.

You to sinkspur: I pollute this Forum? At least I do it from a Catholic perspective, if you see Catholic truth as pollution, that is.

You hit THAT nail on the head!

"The Charter of Rights trumps the Bible."

I guess Canada's charter of rights does not include freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

The media likes to present the Irish problem as a Catholic/Protestant problem, but it is really one of Irish people against English occupiers and oppressors on Irish soil.

LOL! Where exactly did you detect anti-Catholic sentiment there? As a mixed Irish/German Catholic myself, I happen to believe that the Irish did exactly what they had to do in order to combat the atrocities committed against them in their own homeland by the Anglicans. That doesn't change the fact that the Irish have been warring over religion for mroe than a thousand years, and that these liberals are in for a brutal shock (and maybe a public execution or three) if they think the Catholics will simply roll over for this garbage. In nations like the USA or Canada where Catholics are a distinct minority, liberals know they can get away with attacking the Church without fear of backlash. To do so in Ireland is just stupid (of course, who ever said liberals were bright?)

As the thread is about persecution (in Canada) perhaps you have some right to be so testy.

But you're amazingly presumptive to assert I despise "religionists". I don't. The behavior in Canada and Ireland does sound like persecution - by leftist fanatics who can't tolerate anybody who doesn't spew their prescribed lines.

But the basis of that persecution isn't religious, it's political. They'd toast me in a heartbeat, as while I share the same views, I have no religious basis for it - just common sense. Religion is most often a shield from - instead of a basis for - persecution, particularly in the US. As it rightly should be.

OK, good, I was wrong in my assumptions. Mea culpa.

What scintillating, detailed logic!

‘The Charter of Rights trumps the Bible.'"

This Canadian "Charter" is used to silence and jail non-PC voices on everything from race, to the holocaust, to homosexuals. No wonder US liberals dream about having such a blunt instrument of their own.

As a young Canadian social conservative, I feel more secure in the United States where the First Amendment guarantees my freedom of religious expression.

It seems pretty obvious the writer is already worried about voicing his true and complete opinions concerning the vicious demands of homosexuals.

Not a problem. Always delighted, though I am not as skilled in apologetics as yourself or other orthodox/conservative/traditional Catholics on this forum.

"... first they came for our guns, then they came for our freedom of speech in the public square, then they came for our Bibles...!

first they came for the Episcopalians, and the Catholics said, "I'm not an Episcopalian so I am willing to sacrifice them because I'm not like that", then they came for the ......

I thought evidentiary identification of the Church was the indwelling Spirit of Christ. A primary attribute certain to be produced by those indwelt is that which would fulfill what The Lord said He desired most and prayed in His prayer......oneness.

Jhn 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Jhn 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Jhn 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Wonder where I can find some substantiation of the spirit of "that they may be made perfect in one".

"Not all who say, 'Lord, Lord.....' ” ....and few of those who declare themselves "The" are.

I stand foresquare with the Episcopalians who are truly the Church and are horrified with this affair.

However, a large percentage, maybe the majority, are apostate and only playing church. They are disgracing their church, misleading their flocks and defaming the Name of Jesus. The true believers either need to discipline the evil within their church or leave and separate from the apostate, starting anew.

They can't continue to put up with this state of affairs. It will only get worse if it is allowed to continue. Satan will just continue to pile one outrage on another.
