According to the Democrat way of thinking, the Gettysburg Address would be unconstitutional reading due to Lincoln's mention of God. Religion CAN'T ne a part of their playbook since abortion, homosexuality, adultery, etc., are expressly forbidden. If they close their eyes real tight, they won't be able to see the Bible; therefore, the Bible doesn't exist.

You should read the book. It TOWERS above the Movie. The Movie is bascially a re-write.

You will love the book. So take the time and pick up the text and you will not put it down.

VMI will be heard from TODAY!

I think the Republicans have the right idea with the "Catholics Need Not Apply" comment.

I know what you mean, but it might be clearer to say you think the Republicans have the right idea with branding Democrat attitudes as "Catholics Need Not Apply."

I couldn't agree with you more.

I also watched that movie last night on DVD. It was a bit slow at times, but overall I did learn something from it. Thumbs up.

One particular scene stood out in my mind. Stonewall Jackson was sitting on a horse with Jim(?)Louis the black cook. I was surprised (being a northener) at Jackson's comments regarding the abolition of slavery.

Well, from every angle save one they were equal as they both prayed for virtually the same thing. Each man was humble before God and each was sincere. The only thing in that scene that separated them was the fact that Jackson was on a high horse. I found that to be an interesting metaphor.

...and the expression of religious delight over a movie that caught me by surprise

Especially since Ted Turner was involved.

Oh, Geez, you idiot! It was the Catholic Church that came out against "gay marriage". It's the Episcopalians that are going "kwear".

I think the Republicans have the right idea with the "Catholics Need Not Apply" comment. This thing has legs and even if it doesn't, it is the right thing to do and how can you argue with that.

I'm a bit confused by this comment. Maybe I'm a bit behind in the news. Care to clarify?

Always mistify, mislead and surprise the enemy. And when you strike and overcome him, never let up in the pursuit. Never fight against heavy odds if you can hurl your force on only part of the enemy and crush it. A small army may thus destroy a large one. And repeated victory will make it invincible.

T.J. Jackson

Not a bad maxim for politics either.

DVD or video is the only way to see and enjoy this film. I saw it in a theater and it was getting a bit tedious. Then the film broke for the intermission. Most people left and did not return. You are correct about the very religious nature of the characters. My thought at the time was this: Americans today are not fit enough or ethically pure enough or Christian enough to have been in the same room with people who lived during that era.

We too saw and enjoyed the video Gods and Generals. It was fantastic! The way those heroic gentlemen and KIDS had to fight that battle would never have been possible without a deep belief in God. They needed the strength and comfort that came from that belief.

As for those who don't like it...tough. We're not asking them to believe (although I think one of these days they are gonna be sorry but...that's another story) ... we're not asking them to believe anything. We're not asking first of all anything from anybody. We will speak of God and our beliefs anytime we want.

It is our right to believe and to openly speak about God just the way others can openly speak about all the other things they believe in that we don't necessarily agree with.

I believe in God and don't think my life would have gone the way it has without the help of someone greater than me. I also believe in the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the Saints as well. It is my right and my faith and it is my faith that has helped me in so many ways throughout my life.

So, don't worry about being flamed. It's YOUR right to say and speak about what you believe or hold dear. You are part of this free country the way we all our and while I don't agree with some of the things the other side says or does...it is their right and so by the same token we also have that right and for those who don't like it it's becuase they only want their side heard.

They must be afraid of God...yes...that's it. They are AFRAID of God.

Gods and Generals. Excellent movie...will watch it again and will buy it as well. Those were brave men and boys who fought those battles and having visited Gettysburg and Fredricksburg...we too felt like we were standing on holy ground where so many lost their lives. We were HONORED to be right there where History was in the making.

God bless their souls and God bless America!!!

Both sides in the War of the Rebellion felt God was on their side. This is why defeat was so bitter for the South-it was arguably proof that they were wrong and that God favored the North.

I saw it this weekend. Stonewall stole the show. Nonetheless, it did tend to drag from time to time. Overall, I'll see it again.
