Lessons in Division (LEVEL 4 HAZARD BARF ALERT!!) Palestinian propaganda taught at Jewish school)

"Come in, it's warm inside," beckoned an ad for the Orthodox Jewish school Shalhevet, and that's just what Alexander Maksik did.

It was a shock at first. There he was, a young sometime actor, a secular Jew uninterested in religion, newly installed as a middle school English teacher. In the hallways, girls and women walked by in long skirts, boys and men with yarmulkes on their heads. At 7:30 each morning, the students gathered to daven. In the afternoon came more prayer, everyone standing, bending at the waist. Shalhevet had a kosher kitchen and no Christmas break, not even on Christmas Day. Maksik had never seen such loyalty to Jewish culture.

SUMMARY: A private Jewish RELIGIOUS day school hired this shmuck Alexander Maslik to teach ENGLISH. He gave the students assignments to read "literature" that presented the "Palestinian side" of the Mideast conflict (IOW, ISM and similar leftist propaganda). The school fired his ass. The article whines about the "unfairness" of this PRIVATE SCHOOL in firing a teacher who did not live up to his contract. Well boo freakin' hoo.

This hit piece is merely business as usuall for the peoples' voice of the Democratic National Committee AKA the Los Angeles Times. It is just another attempt to paint all religious Jews with the same brush as murderous Arabs.

They worked real hard in this piece too. It must be 3000 words. The Times' conclusion? All religious Jews are bigots and hate Arabs for no reason. -Nice folks otherwise though.

Can you imagine the LAT writing a story like this from the other side? Looking at a Palestinian school that had its own curmudgeonly pro-Israel right-winger, who would then go on and on and on ad nauseum about how racist the Palestinian kids are? I doubt it! (for one thing, they would never have a pro-Israel person at a Muslim or Palestinian school).

This is just part of a campaign of hate against Jews, demonizing them as racists. And there is a steady supply of far-left Jews willing to say nasty things about the others.

Shalhevet had a kosher kitchen and no Christmas break, not even on Christmas Day.

Would the LA Slimes write something like this:

Itbach Al Yahud Muslim Academy had a halal kitchen and no Christmas break, not even on Christmas Day.

No freakin' way.

Yep, decidedly leftist on numerous points. Moral ambiguity, post-modernist thinking, tenets of multi-culturalism, the idea that "if we can just talk about it; work it out," there will never be war and conflict.

Sure, let's talk about it. The Arab world publicly acknowledges the RIGHT of the Jewish nation to exist. Stop all terrorist attacks against Israel, incitement in major media outlets and sources, the indoctrination of hatred of the Jews in Arab school texts; the brainwashing of the next generation, as the current generation has been brainwashed. Etc., etc., etc.

Any of this happened in, say the last four or five decades? No. Any indication at all that this current direction in the Arab world has changed? No. Any glimmer at all that Israel should relax their grip, their posture, at all in maintaining the highest national security standards? No. I say that as being one who has access to numerous information sources from many different places, like most of us do.

Anybody here seen or read or heard anything different in the last few weeks that signifies any type of radical sea change in the thinking of the Arab world? You know, outside of the usual demands of Israel to "compromise"? Real change, I mean. Maybe something I missed; something any of us has missed? Any major, high-profile Arab leader or Arab cultural institution extend even a hand or olive branch to the Jewish people? You know, "let's talk about it?"

Didn't think so.

Well, yeah, of course! They all have! As in, "WHAT MORE STUFF ARE YOU JEWS GONNA GIVE US SO WE'LL THINK ABOUT PROMISING TO RECOGNIZE YOUR RIGHT TO EXIST, MAYBE?"

Teaching his seventh-grade English class one day, Maksik wrote on the blackboard: "Nothing human disgusts me except unkindness." He knew this quote, from Tennessee Williams' "Night of the Iguana," might cause a stir, for its implicit subject was homosexuality. No matter — he liked to push buttons. He didn't think you could say "this is right, this is wrong," and then claim you were educating kids.

This is the ultimate leftist hypocrisy. Liberals are constantly preaching their version of right and wrong to others--especially children--but they can never see that. Always others are moralists, others are "certain," others are "intransigent." What do they call their condemnations of "racism," "injustice," "bigotry," ad infinitum? Why does this never count as moralism or certitude? Why are these absolutes granted title of honorary "free thought?"

When they studied "To Kill a Mockingbird," all the students agreed that the treatment of the black character Tom Robinson was racist and cruel. On the spot, Maksik asked: What would they think if Tom Robinson were a Palestinian?
"I would spit on him," one boy replied.

While Southern Blacks certainly never did anything to earn the scorn they suffered from their fellow Southerners (unlike the "palestinians" with their suicide bombs, conveninently unleashed precisely to prevent creation of a "palestinian state" which would deprive them of their excuse for murdering Jews), I cannot help but shake my head at liberal Jews (even Orthodox ones) who think Jewish history consists only of viewing the world as an "oppressed" people crusading for tolerance of "otherness." Whatever happened to the Book of Joshua? Has it been decanonized or something?

This shocked Maksik. He began to see in kids this young an expression, a look in the eyes, of absolute certainty. He feared that these kids were learning to hate other people. They were the next generation, the future. So where would it end? Was there a way out?

More liberal hypocrisy. Liberals are the most absolutely certain people in the world. That they could be wrong about absolutely anything is so unthinkable to them that they can only respond to doubters by attacks on their sanity. I suppose Maksik isn't "certain" that the universe spontaneously exploded into existence from nothing for absolutely no reason, and that are all products of evolution? (Though this theoretical meaningless of all things never mitigates against atheist moral crusading.)

Would Shalhevet invite a white supremacist to explain why Martin Luther King Day should not be observed?

Another supreme irony. After being forced for centuries to present themselves for ritual kicking by chr*stians on chr*stian holidays, liberal Jews (including Orthodox ones) now champion the same treatment for white Southerners are to spend MLK Day groveling for killing the new false "messiah" whose death redeemed others but cursed them into eternal infamy.

You were right about the barf buckets, Alouette.

Another element of this guy's philosophy is Socialist Utopianism, an incredibly naive and dangerous worldview that we can see threaded throughout the West's/UN's dealings with Israel. To expose the lunacy of this:

Let this guy try the same teaching techniques/tack in a PA school in Ramallah, with the roles of Jewish kids and Palistinian kids reversed.

How much you wanna bet in a short time he would be hanging from his ankles in a public square, dead, from a boom crane or power pole, with fine, upstanding, Palistinian "freedom fighters" sporting checkered kaffiyas and AK47's gleefully dancing around?

But then I wouldn't want to take advantage of anyone wanting to make that bet.   Yeah, right!

Yeah, "other people" who were constantly murdering THEIR OWN PEOPLE. That's not "hate" that is a normal human reaction.

I'm glad I don't live in LA. I would be very tempted to personally kick this guy Maskik's ass.

But, I understand that he has left LA and gone to France, where he thinks he'll be appreciated.

The chances of anyone reading this are about as good as someone caring even if they had read it. But my point is that Maksik is an incredible teacher. And as a matter of fact, as I am one of his students, he is greatly appreciated.
However, this is not to say that I don't understand what point you are trying to make. There is enough evidence to say that the L.A. Times does make Judaism look bad, but do not make the mistake of getting the two confused. Maksik does not spread Palestinian propaganda to any extent. He simply caught on to what got his students going and didn't let go. I admit it was a very risky and perhaps naive move but knowing Maksik personally, you understand that it's just the kind of guy he is. He is constantly forcing his students to see both sides of an argument to help you make a better choice.
