"Would it matter to you what President Bush said to Jesse Jackson?"

Yes, it would. But I can't imagine Bush calling Jackson on the carpet. As much as I respect and admire the President for his CiC policies, I have become disenchanted with his pandering. I just wish he were a domestic conservative and not the centrist he is clearly attempting to be.

"Some people look for anything to bash President Bush at every turn."

Unfortunately, some do. And some people have legitimate criticisms of their leaders. That is fair and that is what a representative government is suppose to be about.

Your premise is a fair evaluation. However, Jackson has been steadily losing support and relevance. Not all political moves are savvy. I believe this one to be in the negative column.

"WELL SAID!!...now the rest of you ...calm down!"

Oh, okay. So you're the latest forum cop who decides what is to be debated or not?

I agree that all is fair game in criticising policy. My problem is with some people that criticize on every issue and the man without looking beyond their nose.

It is ridiculous to take a 15-minute meeting and turn it into a big deal. That I would expect from the libral media.

"The meeting was fifteen minutes long, and it involved another person...isn't that a little bit short for something of such sinister significance?"

It's not so much the length of the meeting, but in this case any meeting with the President conveys a legitimizing and honoring of Jesse Jackson. Don't think other conservatives, companies, and industries who've been blackmailed and victimized haven't noticed.

Jackson is indeed a con man who should be shunned and disdained, and ignored.

Awfully bad judgement on Dubya's part -- no matter what the issue may have been discussed; even for a brief moment.

I understand, but I just can't leap to presume to know what happened in the meeting.

If it makes you feel any better, my pastor is very black, and very conservative, and he has met with President Bush, too.

the people that got upset at Bush for meeting with Jesse probably don't care, it is for public consumption, much like Daschle is so "disappointed" all of the time. Actually really is, but it's because Bush is generally doing so well.

Well, I will presume Bush didn't say anything to alienate Jackson. I just don't think the king race-baiter extortionist is worth the direct Presidential attention...politics are no.

Your tag line cracks me up.

Oh, I agree with you on that point - I think he should be behind bars. I couldn't get past the first chapter of the book that came out about him last year (the name escapes me at the moment), it was so infuriating, and frightening that a person like that could have so much power over people.

And by the way, I stole my tag from a thread about NFL names. : )

Ooo-Kaaay...

Please hold on tight to your tether line connecting you to our planet -- you're beginning to drift out of orbit, my dear Daughter.

In the meantime, we'll keep an eye and ear out for just who kissed who's "ring."

So, in other words, make an enemy of the President and he will see you; but support him and he will ignore you.

Precisely. But I've finally come to accept that there is NOTHING Bush can do that will draw even the mildest criticism from many freepers. NOTHING. Everything the man does--EVERYTHING--is some stunning show of genius at work that we little people just don't have the smarts to grasp, no matter how much these same people would've lambasted Clinton for the same exact thing. I used to think that as a group, conservatives stood on principle instead of blindly following a party line, but I've sadly concluded that this is not the case. The hardcore Bush fans on here follow and defend him at least as blindly as so many Democrats did Clinton.
