[history]
On Friday, the first day that renewal forms containing sharply higher vehicle registration fees were mailed out, Rep. Darrell Issa vowed to cancel the increase if elected governor.
"On October 8, I will repeal Gray Davis' actions," said Issa, R-Vista, during a campaign stop at Dan Gamel's RV Center in Fresno. "It's wrong. It's unfair. It's illegal and it represents both the failure of Gray Davis and the mess he's made in Sacramento."

Sanchez said Davis has been a fiscally conservative governor who has concentrated on education, road improvement and public safety. "We're trying to reverse 16 years of Republican neglect."
Careful Sanchez! The voters may just remember which party has been writing the budgets for the last 16 years, let alone who has been signing them for the last 4!

The recall was perfectly timed. The voters will be smarting from their new vehicle taxes and summertime electric bills, both of which Davis helped increase dramatically.
Recall supporters only have to ask, "How high is your electric bill?" And "How much did Davis stick it to you for on your vehicle registration increase?"
Davis must at least try to delay the vote until voters forget, say in the fall or winter.

Go Issa!I have kept up somewhat on what is going on in your "once" Great State and from what I have perceived from it is "McClintock" would make the perfect ideologue to reverse the present direction to California's pending demise. Am I wrong in thinking so?

Your right, but IMHO Tom does not have the "jack" to mount an effective campaign, nor the time to raise it.
Went to an Issa fundraiser last Thur. He is worth 30mil+.
Built Viper Car Alarms from scratch. He's pro-life, pro 2A,
anti-illegal immigration and against raising taxes.
Looks good in my book.

Here's a hot note I just sent my favorite radio station:
I listen to KFBK more than any other station. This Saturday morning after the fishing show, I became more and more puzzled with each reporting cycle and thought I was listening to paid advertisements by the Davis "No On Recall" campaign, or else a new competitor owned by the Sacramento Bee!
Why on earth are you treating the recall cost issue as if it were something sinful brought on the counties from some dark forces? Why does your web-site have a story that it is a "potential" recall? Are you deliberately planting the seeds of fear and doubt in the minds of your listeners that the voters that legitimately signed the petition that qualified the measure that they had no right to bring this constitutional expense on the counties? If so, shame on you!
Gray Davis was probably beaming at hearing this and should be required to declare the comparable advertising costs of this seeming support of his prime campaign theme on the recall ballot measure to the Fair Political Practices Commission as an "in kind" contribution from KFBK!
The Bee having this as their lead front page story is understandable as their editorial board has consistently and unabashedly supported this abject failure of a Governor, in my opinion! I was embarrassed to listen to this on KFBK, over and over... All Saturday Morning till the Rush replay finally, and mercifully, put an end to it!!!
The recall is going to happen. The counties have contingency funds in their budgets for unforseen events like these. These facts do not constitute actual news!
This either deliberate, or thoroughly thoughtless treatment of recall news coverage is far beneath the usual objective, professional and dignified reporting I've enjoy from KFBK for over 30 years. I sure hope it doesn't happen frequently as it is terribly upsetting and deeply disappointing.
Sincerely,
The Waspman!!!(real name was actually used)

I have a question of my own, is Issa going to steal all of McClintock's ideas without credit?

"It's costing us more than $35 million a day because of lowered bond ratings," Issa said. If this is true, it needs to get out there. I've heard the rating is triple 'B' yet had no idea that this is what it is costing.

"If Darrell Issa is against supporting local fire and police, he ought to come out and say it," Sanchez said. Seems Darrell is against supporting those who would gouge the average driver by tripling the car tax. Perhaps the police and firefighters can bump the teachers out of the way when the general fund pinata is busted open, Mr. Sanchez.

Allright! Nice letter.

If so, shame on you!Missed the show (listen to 1140 in the morning to catch another fishing show- followed by golf), sounds like a lot of free air for the anti's though.
Doesn't he need a 51% "no" vote on the recall to save is butt? How's he gonna do that?

Your right, but IMHO Tom does not have the "jack" to mount an effective campaign, nor the time to raise it.Thats too bad, for although I'm not a resident of CA, I have kept up on his rhetoric lately and found it to be VERY impressive! I, for the first time, e-mailed a politician to give support and that politician was Tom. I'll have to learn more about Issa, but as it stands I would be very pleased if Tom were to change his residency to MN and run for office!
Went to an Issa fundraiser last Thur. He is worth 30mil+. Built Viper Car Alarms from scratch. He's pro-life, pro 2A, anti-illegal immigration and against raising taxes. Looks good in my book.
In my book too! They both sound good for a replacement for Gray-out...who wouldn't? I do have the impression that Tom is a REAL go getter and would be suitable however. If you could, send me a link to info on Issa, it would be greatly appreciated!

Ideologues rarely win here in CA. The Republican activists here have no political sophistication. They chose losers, have no cohesion, and wilt under Democrat fire. We are in jeapordy of squandering the recall opportunity because of hard-headed ideologues who won't abandon their own ambitions to do what's right for the party.

Just received my CA Vehicle Renawal. Went from $161.00 to $454.00!!!!! Am I going to vote for recall of Davis, you bet, as many times as I can!!!!!!

Darrell Issa is a successful high-tech businessman and electronics industry leader who represents Californias 49th Congressional District
located in San Diego and Riverside Counties in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was first elected to Congress in 2000 and
re-elected in 2002, gaining more than 60 percent of the vote in both elections.
Congressman Issa is currently a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over trade, energy,
telecommunications, health care, air quality and the environment. Congressman Issa brings real world experience to the committees task
of enhancing Americas ability to compete, fostering the development of new technologies, improving healthcare and protecting consumers.
Throughout his career in the House, Congressman Issas legislative priorities have included promoting Homeland Security, restoring
confidence in the Social Security system, reducing taxes, strengthening Americas national defenses, increasing Americas energy
independence, and establishing standards and accountability in education.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Issa enlisted in the Army during his senior year of high school, and after attending college on a ROTC
scholarship, attained the rank of Captain. During his active service, he worked as a bomb disposal technician, tank platoon commander,
and computer R&D specialist.
After serving as an Army officer, Issa invested his time and resources into accomplishing a lifelong dream: owning his own business. Issa
founded Vista, California-based Directed Electronics, which grew not only to become the worlds largest manufacturer of vehicle security
systems, but also established his industrys largest budget for research and development. Directed Electronics also employed 150 workers
and produced more than $100 million in annual sales to customers in more than 40 countries. It had rights to 96 patents 37 of which are
listed in the U.S. patent office under Darrell Issas name.
He has also served as Governor of the Electronic Industries Alliance, as well as a Director of the San Diego Economic Development
Association and the Greater San Diego County Chamber of Commerce. In 1994, Inc. Magazine recognized Issa as Entrepreneur of the Year.
In 1996, Issa co-chaired the campaign to enact Proposition 209, the California Civil Rights Initiative. This historic measure prohibited the
use of racial and gender preferences and quotas in state contracting and college admissions. The grandson of immigrants, Issa has served
as President of the American Task Force For Lebanon, and is also the recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which recognizes
immigrants or their descendants who through struggle, sacrifice and success, helped build this great nation.
Issa, 49, holds a BA degree from Siena Heights University, where he also serves as a member of the colleges Board of Trustees. The
Congressman, his wife, Kathy, and their son, William, reside in Vista, California.
