MOVIE REVIEWERS BASH CATHOLIC CHURCH

Catholic League president William Donohue commented today on how movie reviewers assessed “The Magdalene Sisters”:

 

“Imagine an anti-Semitic director who admits he packed into one movie every anti-Semitic theme he could draw on and then gets an anti-Semitic duo to distribute it.  Next imagine film critics taking the anti-Semitic propaganda at face value and then offering anti-Semitic remarks in their reviews.  Fat chance.  For example, there will never be a movie about Jewish slumlords in Harlem or Jewish managers of black entertainers in the 20^th century.  If there were, and if it were to present a wholly one-sided portrait of the worst excesses of how some Jews exploited blacks, the ADL would be up in arms.  And rightly so.  But luckily for Jews, this is not likely to happen.  Catholics are not so lucky—they have to endure Catholic-bashing directors like Peter Mullan shopping his anti-Catholic script to anti-Catholic distributors like Harvey and Bob Weinstein, only to have it reviewed by anti-Catholic critics.  Here are some of today’s reviews:

·        “Mullan has been criticized for condensing the extreme abuses of asylums into an overloaded melodrama, and he does, but I don’t fault him for it.”  “The whole system was sadistic and indefensible, and the church…deserves the scorn that Mullan and his fine cast heap on it.”  (New York Daily News)

·        “For some, the asylums were like a roach motel—girls checked in, but they never checked out, except 40 or 50 years later, in a pine box.” (San Francisco Chronicle)

·        “Mullan transcends genre labeling by delving into the ways in which moral fascism debases its practitioners as it lays bare the human limitations of its intended converts.”  (Newsday)

·        “You’ll walk away amazed at the heartlessness of the people running the asylums and wondering how such a gruesome practice could have existed into the late 20^th century.”  (New York Post)

 “These reviewers have a deep-seated need to believe the worst about the Catholic Church.  They’re the ones who need to check into the asylum.”

Somebody should make a "fact-based" drama about Disney Corp...

Didn't someone go undercover and film Disney employees partying during Gay Pride Day at the park?

People should be reminded about how the knee-jerk liberals convinced the nation to open the doors of all the insane asylums to let those poor tortured people free.You probably are too young to remember,story after story about the inhuman conditions of the state/government mental institutions in the 70's,I believe. It is so easy to point fingers years after the fact when you can forget or change the story to fit whatever tale will further the agenda.

Those were the years I was raising my boys and I recall several women being institutionalized with post-partum depression. Sometimes it was for a year or longer. They came home fine and raised their children to adulthood without any more problems. Unlike the poor women in Dallas who drowned her children in the bath tub. A couple of little affordable 2 or 3 days of confinement is as much as the system allows now.

Look at newspaper reports over the last several years,in my own town we have had several grandparents and parents brutally murdered by their own children,the parents had sought to have them committed but there is no place for them now.

The upshot of that "release" is we have homicidal people loose,mentally slow,incompetents who are now homeless or just meandering around neighborhoods with nothing to do until their caretakers,get home from work.Some have contributed to the drug abuse problem and commit petty crimes,while many are inmates in our jail systems.meanwhile they are neglected and continue to be abused and society is subject to the losses that result from unsupervised incompetents and worse inflict on them. If people could start suing government in this country and the liberals who pushed for the "release",maybe some justice could occur. On second thought,not government,instead the persons who pulled the strings and wrote the fabricated stories and made the movies.

While on an earlier post I said that many could have been delinquents,it is also possible that some number were also significantly mentally challenged,both intellectually and psychologically.

These knee jerk reactors have caused a lot of trouble for society through the years.

Please don't mistake this screed as an indication of my satisfaction with the old system,there were a lot of problems. But those should have been addressed and resolved keeping the system in place.
