But It's Not My Fault! An essay by 4mycountry
Have you ever read those stories? You know -- the ones where a person is suing a fast-food chain because they're obese? Or the ones where a person is getting an abortion because a baby would "ruin their life"?
I, even as a first-year teen, find these stories not only to be repulsive, but saddening. What happened to responsibility? What happened to saying you were wrong and taking the blame yourself?
The more and more I look at the news and read the articles here, it becomes increasingly evident that we live in a world where it simply "is not our fault". Remember that story where the person put his/her RV on cruise control and left the steering wheel, and when the thing crashed, he/she sued the maker of the RV for not making it clear that cruise control is not auto pilot?
This is what I'm talking about. Why can't we take responsibility for our own stupidity? What happened to moral?
Abortion is one of the key things that proves my point. I hate abortion with my entire being, but I have to elaborate why it's a "not-my-fault" topic.
Why do women get abortions? Because they "can't live with being pregnant. Having a baby will ruin my life, so I need to get an abortion". Let me get this straight: It's the baby's fault you're pregnant. It's the baby's fault you messed around. It's the baby's fault you're about to be a mom. It's not YOUR fault you messed around and are pregnant and about to be a mom. Is that right?
I don't think so.
And let's not forget Gays. Ah, yes, a prime example of "it's-not-my-fault syndrome". The newest excuse for gayness is -- are you ready? -- "They are born with it". According to society, gays can't help their choice of sexuality, because it's "in their genes/DNA". So they didn't make a conscious decision? They didn't decide to be gay? They didn't choose that type of life? We shouldn't dislike them, because it's not their fault?
Yeah right. I'm not buying it.
And the wonderful fast-food-joint frenzy. Now here is the creme of the crop. People who are over weight have begun to sue the fast-food companies that sell fattening foods. Why? You guessed it. Because "it's not my fault I'm fat. It's THEIR fault because they sell the food that makes me fat". No one is forcing you to get the food. YOU do it. But hey, it's the company's fault, not yours. It's their fault you're over weight because you eat their food. Right?
Sure.
Seems screwy, doesn't it? Everyone complains about how the morals have gone from the country, then they turn around and do this stuff. "It's not MY fault, it's their/his/her fault".
Please, the next time you do something wrong or mess something up, take responsibility for it: stand up, don't be ashamed, don't blame anyone else, and say, "It's my fault".
Thanks for your time, 4my
It's not my fault.
Well, don't look at me, it's not MY fault...
Okay, okay, I
admit it! I did it! I
put up a picture
of Britney Spears in
a thread that wasn't about
her. It's all my fault...
