The old 'switcheroo' - the law doesn't work with our strategy so let's break it. I am getting SO SICK of this! And of course, if it's shot down, it was obviously done by racists.

Today, civil rights means everyone must cater to the whims of radicial liberal groups. So much for a color blind society where people are judged by their character, instead of their skin color.

This and the entire trend is right out of two books - "1984", and the more recently released "The Thought Police".

Yes, I did. I also read "The Death of Right & Wrong". In my opinion, Tammy Bruce's books should be required for conservatives. I think they are much more educational than Ann Coulter's "Slander" and " Treason". Tammy Bruce was once an active member of NOW. Thus, she really knows how liberals how operate.

I don't want to pull the thread off-topic, so this will be my last comment on it, but I totally agree about the Thought Police and the author Tammy Bruce. Plus, she's gay, which makes her views regarding Dr. Laura and hate crimes all the more relevant. Now, I will go back to the topic. I'll have to get the other book you mentioned, though. Thanks!

The Press Telegram has an article on Prop 54 and they state that the proposition would attract more to vote on Oct 7. The Dem's strategy perhaps?

According to the Secretary of State's July 29th initiative update,
http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_j.htm, there are two initiatives ready to go.
Proposition 53. (ACA 11 Richman) Infrastructure: finance. Placed on the October 7, 2003, Statewide Special Election Ballot.
Proposition 54. (933) Classification By Race, Ethnicity, Color or National Origin. Initiative Constitutional Amendment. Placed on the October 7, 2003, Statewide Special Election Ballot.
Prop 53 would devote an increasing percentage (to 3%) of our state budget to mandatory spending on infrastructure, of which 50% would go to "acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, modernization, or renovation of infrastructure that is owned, or is to be acquired by, the State," and the other 50% would go to the same for local government. The infrastructure includes, but is not limited to, "streets, roads, highways, transportation, water, parks, and open space."
The purpose of Prop 53 is to provide a constant source of funding instead of requiring frequent bond measures. (fat chance). It's been portrayed as helping transportation, but roads/highways are only some of the many possible outlets for the spending. The actual projects are for the legislature to decide and dole out, and there's no minimum spending on roads or freeways. There are also provisions for revenue decreases and increase.
I would like a similar type of measure if the spending were exclusively for building or maintaining the freeways, but that is not in Prop 53. What if all of the money goes to water and public transportation? I'm inclined to vote no on 53.
Here's a copy of Prop 53 / ACA 11 (Assembly Constitutional Amendment #11 from the 2001-2002 session).

oxymoron alert:
Also on that Initiative Update, there are 5 petitions in circulation that have to do with confinement of pigs, including pregnant pigs, requiring that they be given enough space to turn around in their pens or something. The term "pigs" refers to really young swine (not yet mature, and not possibly pregnant); pigs grow up to become hogs.

An absolutely racist (ethnist) organization. Opposed Prop 209 and supported the racist practices at University of Michigan, to name a few.
They are not deserving to be called a civil rights organization, yet the leftist-extremists at the Mercury Poisoning News labels these fringe lawsuit-happy racist organizations as civil rights organizations. I spit on them.
