The Aussie lefties couldn't get Arrianna Huffington to run for office in their country, so they got the next best thing.

Ok Background. in the 1990s the Liberal (read conservative) party selectet as
forlorn hope candidaite for the safe Labor safe of Oxley a fish and chip (read fries) shop owner named Pauline Hanson. She wasn't expected to win ans nobody looked to closely at her qualifications. It soon became apparent that she has a certain political presence, but was hoplessly Politically Incorrect. It was to late to remove her from the ballot as official Liberal candidate but the Liberals declared her
anathema and put forward a more acceptable (to the PC mob) unofficial candidate. That action, combined with a stron anti-Labor swing led to Ms Hanson being elected.
In Parliament she proved to be outspoken, with a ideas that vergfed from the wacky to the plain good sense. Lack of political background and education meant that she was not always able to clearly explain her views (i.e her statement "Democracy is another word for mob rule"). Although the media would not have let her do it anyway .
The anti-pauline backlash was widespread in the "politicaly enlightened " conmmunity. Pantsdown was not the not extreme and vicious expression of Hanson-Hate.
Pauline Hanson: Heroine Portrayed As A Villain
notes on anti-Hanson statements From MedicineAu the online journal of medicine By Dr Andrew Gunn DRS Qld 20 June 1998
1. The claim that an "Aboriginal industry" bleeds the system is a central tenet of One Nation Taxpayer money going to Aboriginal Australians (c.200,000) above normal benefits avaiable to all Australians = A$2 billion (you do the math) Pauline was un PC to point this out
2. In addition, One Nation have pro-violence policies ie they opposef Howard gun-control scheme
3. One Nation's economic platform includes unrealistic policies a measure of truth, but Pauline did show evidence that she woas prepared to listen to valid objections
4. It is driven by power hungry people using the proven technique of designating scapegoats, dividing the community and then imposing their will. Pot, meet kettle.
