Achmed may hate America. But you better believe the Imams don't tell Achmed that Americans are evil because we can drink bourbon, get haircuts, drive fast cats, eat with both hands...no, we're evil because we are not Muslim. The other stuff would mean nothing to Achmed.

I think the founders of our country would disagree with you.

"We hold these Truths to be self-evident..."
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness = FREEDOM.

I guess it all depends upon how you view the human soul. Does the soul or human spirit desire Freedom? I would say, yes.

I meant drive fast cars, not fast cats. Cats hate being driven fast.

Sure they do. If they are going to say that we are infidels, they have to say why our way is not the right way.

If I said to you that people from Branson, MO were evil, wouldn't you want to know WHY? You don't think that they hear the specific reasons why we are evil?

If we are just different, and no specifics are given, then why would the people even listen? Would you listen?

I agree that we are evil to them first and foremost because we are not Muslim.

But those other, more concrete things follow swiftly behind in many cases, i suspect.

Some of the things may not mean much to this or that individual Muslim. However, it doesn't take much for one of those things--not wearing a beard--for example--to symbolize most emotionally our not being a Muslim. I just don't know that the line between abstract and concrete is that . . . uhhhhh concrete.

I think the tendency in that region is to EMOTE first, last and always . . . and connect it consciously to whatever if and when they get around to it. I think EMOTING DEMONSTRABLY is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CLOSE TO, SO AKIN TO PROVING HOW LONG THEIR'S IS that nothing has much of a chance of moderating those emotional habits a lot. It seems to be ingrained--like worrying about food and money is so ingrained in the Chinese.

imho.

I would, yes. But in our culture we are encouraged to ask why. In theirs, all the Imam has to do is say we are evil, and they won't question it. It's very easy to whip a mob to an irrational frenzy; history is replete with examples.

Just for the sake of accuracy, I was paraphrasing the President. I know, however that he made the point more than once, including in Cincinnati in 2002:

We could wait and hope that Saddam does not give weapons to terrorists, or develop a nuclear weapon to blackmail the world. But I'm convinced that is a hope against all evidence. As Americans, we want peace -- we work and sacrifice for peace. But there can be no peace if our security depends on the will and whims of a ruthless and aggressive dictator. I'm not willing to stake one American life on trusting Saddam Hussein.

me 3!!!

. . . though I certainly feel maybe too few constraints about slapping some idiotic statements down in the same manner some too quickly and too habitually hostile folks toss them at me in [not you!!!]. Some people seem to think they should get a free ride verbally abusing Christians. I prefer to say things in a way that at least gives them a tiny pause that MIGHT foster a little rethinking of that.

the above an unnecessary aside. Slightly sorry for getting off on it.

But you forget that bin Laden is a hero, in the radical Muslim world... he is akin to Elvis in America. He is worshipped. And the people LISTENED to his rantings against America. People all over the Middle East are waiting breathlessly for his death, so they can martyr him. He is a legend, a hero, and he wants to kill America.

To clarify: I would question why I am to hate them...I would not simply, mindlessly follow. I think my earlier post may have been unclear.

I'm not forgetting it at all. It's precisely my point. He has whipped them into hating us, and they don't know why. Mobs are easy to manipulte.

I know you have been taking heat for your freedom quote, Just so you know, I understood what you meant. It was just another mangled sentence by GWB, he has made a few, but most of us know where his heart is and appreciate his strong stand against our enemies and his faith in all of us.

Kudos to you for your patience and civility you showed in your responses.

The Quran states that infidels are evil.

If you are not a Muslim, you are an infidel.

If you are an infidel, you should be killed.

It is that simple.

Now, this doesn't mean that all Muslims follow this... perhaps the radical movement does. And in no way to I want you to think that I believe all Muslims are terrible people. I don't. But, I do believe that many of the radical Muslims believe it is open season on Americans.
