Man facing child pornography charges possessed numerous images BY ELIZABETH LANGTON AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
Federal court records un sealed Tuesday say a man charged Monday with receiving a single image of child pornography actually possessed numerous such images downloaded from the Internet.
FBI agents arrested Her lindo Oliva, 34, of Lubbock.
According to an affidavit by Special Agent Keith Quigley, agents interviewed Oliva on July 24. He purchased a membership at a child porn site that subsequently was raided by law enforcement, according to Quigley's report.
Oliva told the agents that he first encountered images of child pornography while viewing an adult pornography Internet site. He said he spends between four and five hours each night surfing the Internet.
At first, Oliva was angered and disturbed by the images and decided to collect images and report them to law enforcement, he said.
"Oliva was curious about the child porn pictures at first and stated that looking at them 'messed me up' and 'messed with my head.' He just kept wanting to see more, though," Quigley wrote in his report.
Oliva admitted to thinking about participating in the acts depicted in the pictures and videos but denied acting on those impulses, according to court records.
Oliva allowed agents to take his computer and numerous compact discs and computer disks. He told agents that he possessed more than 300 images and 20 video clips of pornography.
Oliva was charged with one count of receiving child pornography for a single image that agents viewed on one of the CDs, according to court records. The image depicts a young girl engaging in intercourse with an adult man, records say.
Oliva made his initial court appearance Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nancy Koenig. He was released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from children and not use a computer or the Internet.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Sucsy said a federal grand jury likely will consider the case in August after authorities further analyze Oliva's computer and disks for evidence.
