Thanks for the post. I was born and raised in Memphis. I was a fan of Jerry Lee and dated one of his cousins(not the one he married) LOL. We would all get together and party all night. I remember the night Jerry Lee drove his car through the gates of Graceland with a gun in the front seat. Needless to say Jerry was a little drunk and Elvis was not home. Sorry to hear of Sam Phillips' death. "The Man Who Invented Rock and Roll." Phillips was genius. He came up with the idea of finding a white man to sing black music, mixing country and western with blues. Just imagine, there would have not been rock and roll without Sam Phillips and Elvis Presley. God bless Sam Phillips. I am sure Elvis was at the gates of Heaven to welcome him.

There may still have been "rock and roll" but it would have been a flash in the pan and not taken the country by storm.

The major labels wouldn't have supported it and it wouldn't have become a pop culture movement without Elvis.
