Daughter Linda Hope said Monday that her father, who died Sunday at age 100, was recently asked by wife Dolores where he wanted to be buried and the wisecracking entertainer responded, "Surprise me." With a twinkle in his eye and that urchin grin we all love...
Here's to you Bob! You will always be missed.

Larry King is supposed to have a special program about Bob Hope this Friday.

So sad, what a generous guy he was. Saw him live at the Sandwich Airport, doing a free benefit for the Missionaries
of the Sacred Heart.

I wonder why he was not buried at Forest Lawn in Glendale. That used to be the "in" place to be buried.

I met Hope at my cousin's wedding in 1987. (Her dad wrote jokes for Hope for decades.)
On the occasions when I stayed at their home on visits to L.A., I would take messages when they were out, and several times I took messages from Hope. He was just as funny on the phone.

If you've ever heard the words to "Lay Me Down in Forest Lawn" you'd probably know why...it just doesn't seem like Mr. Hope's kind of place.

One of my favorite lines from his military visits was, "I don't know where the hell we are, but I'm happy to be here.
It was my understanding that sometimes he was not allowed to tell where he was to keep the base secret.

When he said "suprise me" he was wishing for Arlington National cemetary. I wish he was laid to rest there.

When he said "suprise me" he was wishing for Arlington National cemetary.
I wish he was laid to rest there.
I thought Hope might end up in The National (Veteran's) Cemetary in West Los Angeles,
as they renamed a building for him (chapel?) last year (IIRC).
Plus he'd be eternally at rest with a lot of folks who were in his audience
(WWII-Vietnam era).

Jerry Colonna
wasn't he the black-haired fellow with the huge mustache who toured with Hope
in the WWII era?

I saw his daughter Linda on Larry King last nite. She said they had selfishly (her words) decided to have him buried where he would be close to the family.

PBS also doing a special tonight, although I don't know if it's a re-run.

Oops. Probably missed that one! Thanks anyway!

Well, in lieu of burial at Arlington, I reommend a memorial to him at the entrance.
I understand the family's desire to having him buried in LA, but I think the nation needs a reminder at Arlington.

His daughter sounded very open to other memorials mentioned.
By the way, she's 64 and I thought she looked great!
