First the governor of Alabama, and now the governor of Virginia, are invoking God and Christianity in support of tax increases. Whatever happened to the separation of church and state?

Hey,
The Idiot we've got in office is trying to get around a 50% state tax increase claiming it is our duty to God to pay it!
I don't know where they come from.

...I do not read this the same way you guys do (i know nothing about virginia politics)
In general, however, Warner said, "D.C. should have the right to raise taxes on their own citizens as much as they want. That's a God-given right. But I will not accept that they can put a tax on Virginians."
That is, its their God-given right to screw themselves, but not to screw others.

To be fair, here's the complete quote. It's a lot less damning; after all, he doesn't advocate the taxation of Virginians. He might as well have said, "Gray Davis ought to triple taxes on all Californians, but he isn't going to tax MY citizens!"
On other matters, Warner said he does not support a drive by the District of Columbia government to impose a tax on commuters from Virginia and Maryland. He noted that the district has filed a lawsuit against a federal rule that bars the city from taxing commuters, and he said he expects the issue to "play out initially in the courts." He said he does not believe the district will succeed in its lawsuit.
In general, however, Warner said, "D.C. should have the right to raise taxes on their own citizens as much as they want. That's a God-given right. But I will not accept that they can put a tax on Virginians."

Paying Taxes to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. "Teacher," they said, "we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, 20and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"
21"Caesar's," they replied.
Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

So is he saying that the federal government doesn't have the right to tax citizens in Virgina, and by extension residents of the other 49 states and only state governments have the power to tax its citizens?

Jesus said "Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's and render unto God that which is God's" or something like that.

If 10% is good enough for God then 10% is good enough for government - all of it: state, local and fed.

Then it equally is a God-given right of the citizens to make guys like this unemployed.

Then it equally is a God-given right of the citizens to make guys like this unemployed. Excuse me - let me be more clear: it is the right of the citizens to oust politicians who opt to extort more taxes from them. It appears that this certainly isn't the aim of Warner in this context.

If Mr. Warner would care to read a copy of the US Constitution, the right for the Government to tax comes from the people, not God.

Liberals and RINOs invoke God when they think it suits their purposes... at all other times they seek to drive every vestige of Him out of American public life.

How did this Bozo get elected to Governor??Thank goodness that Virginia governors are limited to one term.
To: goldstategop
The problem Warner and fellow Dimwits have is that their invocations of the Almighty are insincere and phoney doesn't cut it with most voters.
Besides, His position on confiscatory taxes is very clear, "Love the tax collector, dispise the cruel taxes." Well... OK He didn't say it exactly that way, but you get the idea.
