Poland, U.S. Agree on Iraq Peacekeepers

.c The Associated Press

WARSAW, Poland (AP) - The United States has agreed to provide transportation and other support for 9,000 Polish peacekeepers heading to Iraq, an official said Tuesday.

The agreement was signed by Poland's Deputy Defense Minister Janusz Zemke and the U.S. Defense Department's comptroller, Dov Zakheim, last week, said Col. Eugeniusz Mleczak, a Defense Ministry spokesman.

Mleczak said the U.S. agreed to provide airlifts for most of the 9,000-person unit to Iraq, additional equipment, camp construction, and medical care and food.

The spokesman did not disclose the value of the support.

Poland's government has said it can afford only one-third of the Iraq mission's annual cost of $90 million.

Poland was a staunch ally of the Bush administration's effort to oust Saddam Hussein, contributing some 200 troops to the war.

The Polish mission is scheduled to start in September. Ukraine, Spain, Bulgaria, Norway and Denmark are among more than 20 nations that will have troops in the Polish sector.

America greatly appreciates the help we're receiving from our Polish allies.

Btw, screw the French! Screw the German's too!

Just think about how many other countries would be involved if we weren't "going it alone".

Totally understandable, 200 troops for $90 million a year, works out to $450,000 dollars a year for each soldier. I think it's only fair that American taxpayers kick in an extra $300,000 per year for every man our staunch ally, Poland contributes.

Hey wiseguy, the $90 million is in support of the 9,000 Polish peacekeepers, not the original 200. That comes out to $10k per soldier, per year.

Any money spent to occupy Iraq, or any other nation that we attack, based on political goals, is a disgrace to the United States and our Founding Fathers.

Hogwash!

Politics is about the art of governing and the military falls under the purview of government. Politics is also an important part of human relations that touches our daily lives. The Founding Fathers engaged in politics and were the best politicians of their day.

Stop being an impractical idealist.

Keep in mind, the Germans are helping us out in Afghanistan. It is only in Iraq where we are loggerheads.
